Me me! Only it's my 3rd IUI and supposedly I trigger tomorrow and IUI on Tuesday.
It was my first cycle with Follistim. They doubled my femara to 5 mg during days 3-7, and I did 75iu Follistim on day 5, 7, 9. I went for an ultrasound today and only had one mature follicle (18) and one 14.5 mm follicle. That's the exact same result I got on 2.5 mg of femara without the $300 vial of meds!! They called today and said to add another dose of Follistim tonight. I'm hoping that will add some growth to the little follicle to get them both mature. I'm so disappointed I didn't get any major results!

Yes, this is our 3rd IUI as well but we did have a pregnancy from the first one. That time it was only the Ovidrel trigger shot. This time it's Femara, estrogen (lining was too thin), ovidrel, IUI, progesterone (I have a luteal phase defect, hopefully this will prevent me from miscarrying if a baby is made). Praying this is the cocktail that helps us get a sibling for our son!

How did the IUI go, Delaney13? I would have been disappointed too, Nwt814! That's a lot to spend for no better results than you had with the Femara alone. Are you doing a monitored cycle Delaney? Did the Follistim seem to help? If we don't get a baby this time I might have to look into adding that to our drug cockail lol. We only plan to do one more IUI then we're done TTC for permanent because DH is 48 and I'm 35 (we were TTC 13 years before we finally got our son), and also we just can't keep funneling money into TTC like this. The stakes are high, I want a sibling for our son so badly. I also realize it may sting hearing someone with a child longing for another because I "should be grateful" for what I have. I am very grateful and if we do not have another, that is how I will be able to find some peace. But secondary infertility is honestly just as hard as primary, but in a different way. You do have the joy of a child, but that doesn't erase the longing for another. I've dreamed of having a little girl since I was 6 years old. It will be hard to let go of that dream...which I may have to even if we have another child, it could be a boy!! But I would be happier with that than no sibling at all for our son. He would love a brother to play with.

Wowzers, sorry I wrote a novel!!

Omgosh! So excited other people have done this cocktail, I was starting to get worried.

We had 3 mature and 1 close. I don't remember the amount of Femara but we did 150,150,100,75ml of Follistim. Both doctor and nurses said we did really well on the meds so we are really hoping this is it. So sorry your results were close to last cycle. Still those are pretty good looking follies! I bet with that added dose they were able to grow a bit!! Any side effects for you?? Maybe you can ask him to up it next go around if this doesn't work. Our meds alone were $1000, please tell me your secret for $300! :)

I think if this doesn't work, we are off to IVF. :( how many iui do you plan to do @newt?

Baby dust @vraklis! This is gonna be your month! I hate to hear y'all only have one more shot after this. But I do understand the stress and money going into all this:( the heartbreak every month is the worst. So glad you do have a son from all the sadness the first time around. Praying that you get your sibling!

Re: Femara - Follistim - Ovidrel - IUI

Postby Nwt814 » Tue Mar 15, 2016 9:14 pm

Well-today helped my heart a LOT!! I paid out of pocket for a repeat ultrasound to make sure that I hadn't already ovulated (I've got a bad habit of ovulating 12 hours or less after a positive OPK and/or the trigger) and I was able to see that my second follicle had grown 7 mm since Sunday at 8 am! So I had two mature follicles 1-21mm and 1-22mm for today's IUI! And I ovulated almost at the same time as the IUI-I felt it and had spotting. So if THIS doesn't work, I don't know what else I can do!

I hope that yours took as well!! My secret to the $300 isn't really a secret-I was only prescribed a dose of 300 of Follistim, so I'd assume that the more you need, the more expense. Including the out of pocket ultrasound, this cycle cost $960, so I am definitely with you on being way over the expense :( we aren't considering IVF because we have always had it in our heart for adoption so we will go that route. We'd love a little one biologically, the world needs more men like my husband, but if it's not in the cards then we will make it. Keep me posted on your results!!

Also-side effects for me were just feeling the stretching of my ovaries a little. It got kind of puffy/tight at the end but no real discomfort. We will probably do 4 rounds of injections with IUI and then pursue adoption. What about you guys?

Whyyyyy is infertility so expensive. The meds can't really cost that much to make, can they? Ridiculous!

Nwt that is really promising, yay for the good follies!! This has to be your month. I'm with you on adoption, we can't afford it but down the line we will probably try to foster to adopt. I know that route is a lot harder, but those kids could really use a good home too.

I'm going into 7 DPO and sometimes I feel so sure I'm pregnant and other times I know for sure we're out this cycle. The good thing about being on these meds is I can attribute every "symptom" to them so I am not overanalyzing as much as I did when it was just natural TTC. My boobs are swollen and although they don't exactly hurt, I'm very aware of them. Got some cramping on and off. I tested today b/c I want to test the HCG out of my system and I got a very very light line so I'm hoping for no line tomorrow so I know its all gone that way I can trust a line if it comes when I continue to be a crazy person and test early. LOL

Vraklis-no shame in early testing! I often joke that I should donate my body to science after I die bc I'm surely doing it while I'm living! I'm just so interested in it all! I want to know the whys and why nots about myself!! And when I ask the doctor questions, it bothers me when they don't explain it adequately! If ANY of us were normal, we wouldn't be spending money hand over fist at a specialist each month!! Amen on the symptom spotting. I tried to remember that initially, eggs are the size of the end of a piece of hair, and spermies even smaller, so surely they can't cause that much trouble!
I'm very proud of my follies-even prouder that my little one broke the scientific mold and grew 7 mm in 48 hours to perfect maturity. Thanks God!!! It was worth the $133 out of pocket just to see it at maturity!

Well, I hope this is your month as well. If you figure out any way to keep your mind off of things during the TWW, let me know! I got a pedicure today but of course stayed on this website the whole time. I'm addicted :/

I've decided not to test again until day 10 at the EARLIEST. But am going to try to hold out till day 12. LOL. We'll see. 8 DPO today and really crampy so I'm equal parts scared and hopeful. It could be gearing up for AF, could be implantation. Last IUI, AF started at 9DPO and I'm on progesterone to prevent early AF this time but I'm still a little anxious about it...especially with all this cramping, got me so up and down!

Ooh girl! My best is that is implantation!!! Glad you got put on progesterone! I had to tell my RE to give it to me. I don't understand why that isn't a requirement. Simple thing that could do alot of good!!

I had to ask for it too, they seemed really unconcerned about my early periods but were willing to give it to me since I asked. I don't like having to figure this out myself, that's why I'm going to them ugh. Anyway! No AF yet so I'm glad for that at least, but no symptoms either and I couldn't hold out, tested 9&10dpo and BFN both days. I'm using cheapo tests and not sure even an expensive one would pick up hcg the day after implantation, if that's what I felt. LOL. I'm a psycho and will probably just continue to test since I've already started and have 2 more cheapies to use. How are you guys doing during your TWW, Delaney and Nwt?

Antsy is a good word to describe me. Ha ha. Going for my progesterone test tomorrow am and anxious to start taking supplements to feed whatever might be in there. I get between 7-9 for progesterone 7 dpo...which is pretty weak in my opinion. Interested to see what the FSH did for increasing egg quality.
My parents live out of town and are coming up for the week and leaving the day I would get a true positive. I am trying to decide if I will tell them then, or wait. :( mom has been pretty in the know for everything and I have no poker face so my options are limited ha ha.
