On to Hybrid IUI!!!!!

Hey ladies! Checking in!! AF came yesterday but the pains two days prior were the weirdest! Sharp, radiating to my back and more on the lower left abdomen. I had to sit when they came. Last cycle we skipped IUI coz there was only one not even decent follicle. This cycle we will do same dose of Femara 7.5 mg day 3-7. NP is adding Gonal F injections day 7-9 75iu. US day 10 and IUI next day dependent on follicle progress. I feel good about this plan. This will be our second IUI. And last before we embark on IVF. I pray we just need one ultrasound coz each costs 250.... IUI is 560 (includes wash and all that jazz). Budget is tight. I'm believing for positive outcomes.
Happy Memorial Day weekend y'all and enjoy life. Bd for the pleasure of it, makes it less of a chore hehehehe. I know this baby making process can make bd just so much work and non spontaneous!!! Lol! And I do not want to put that kind of stress into our marriage, much as we both would love to have two kids like yesterday. Children are God's gifts. So He will fill my arms when His time is right. Baby dust to all!!!

Hi ladies!

Sorry that it has been a while since I posted. So just a quick update on me- IUI #2 failed and I just had IUI #3 done on 5/26. I'm doing my best to stay positive, but of course it is so hard since this has not worked the last two times and my RE hasn't wanted to change anything. So that is frustrating. If it doesn't work this time I am not sure what we are going to do. I do plan to meet with the RE one more time if this round doesn't work and see what his thoughts are about this. I have read in multiple places that if it doesn't work by the 3rd IUI then it most likely will not work via IUI.

Gingersnap- I am really surprised that your doctor moved forward with IUI's before doing all of the baseline testing. For me I saw my regular gyno in October for a regular check up. We discussed how long we had been trying (over a year at that point)- she asked me to give it another 6 months. Then we went back to her in Feb after 6 more months of BFN's and we discussed next steps. She ordered day 3 blood, day 21 blood and gave me a script for an HSG and a referral for an RE. when all of those tests came back clear that is when we had the consult with the RE and the rest is history- clomid, ovidrel, IUI's. I would push to have the HSG if I were you because of course the IUI will not work if you have blocked tubes or something like that going on. Wishing you luck!

MsRoulette- Wishing you lots of luck with your second IUI. Really hoping it works for you! One of the questions I will have for my RE if this IUI doesn't work is about adding injectables into the mix.

How is everyone else doing? Where are the ladies who were on or close to the same cycle as me? Any of you on IUI #3 as well?

HI ladies. FIrst time here for me. My husband and I have been trying naturally for 2+ Years with no luck. Husband has low sperm count and motility. Everything seems to be good with me. We are trying IUI in a couple days for the first time. I went in today but my follicle isn't mature enough. Will go tomorrow and get rechecked and then get a trigger shot and then have the procedure done Thursday. I'm excited but not trying to get my hopes up. Trying to be cautiously optimistic!

welcome Fdub! Nothing wrong with being optimistic! After all, is that not why we are all on this journey? because we believe and hope it will end up with our arms filled with babies.....All the best in your journey!
Stayinghopeful, I hear you mama on how depressing this can be. it is ok to take time out and just simply be sad. But get up and pick back up. I was there last month. Took it out on the NP and all heheheheh but this is a new month. Let tomorrow worry about itself. weird saying that when in our journey we are setting up processes for tomorrow; bloods, ultrasounds, etc. But really, there is only so much we can handle in a day. Lord help us get pregnant, just sprinkle babies all up in here lol!
Today for me it is day 5 of 7.5 mg of femara. I never had so much abdominal pain on it and I have not even started stimming with gonal F. It is not ovarian pain coz it is smack in the middle abdomen but I am kind of freaking myself out by reading stories about OHSS and I should stop. I will be starting on 75 iu anyway and considering 7.5 mg of Femara has only produced one follicle each time in the past, I should be at ease.
weirdest thing though is that af just finished her rounds today. But for the last few days I have zero appetite. I am starving but no desire to eat. What usually excites me has me making faces. So strange! Baseline ultrasound yesterday showed a bunch of follies but of coz they are all empty since af was still in town. There was one she said she technically can call it a cyst and run it through insurance to save me 250 bucks but she also added that it was not unusual. Goal is to get a few to grow and mature. Why are they as stubborn as I am? heheheh. This Gonal F adn femara combo better be the magic. But I have had so much prayer from friends and workmates, and my own prayers too. I am believing for good news this cycle.
Good night ladies! adn baby dust!

Fdub- good luck today with your IUI. Catch that egg swimmers!!!!

MrsRoulette- haha I'm with you- can someone sprinkle baby dust all up in here!! Really hoping that the Gonal F and Femara are your magic maker!!

EOE- I hope you are all doing well!!

AFM- not much to report. I'm in my TWW (7DPIUI today 8DPT) and just trying to make it through! I haven't been obsessing. I've actually been pretty calm and collected. I guess I just don't want to set myself up for disappointment (even though I know I will still be disappointed if it doesn't work). Only time will tell- until then, just trying to enjoy the weather and all other aspects of my life as much as I can.

Hi ladies. I have really enjoyed reading everyone's story and it's nice to hear others in similar situations.

I had my first IUI on 6/2 but when I went in I found out that my husbands sperm count was only 900,000 after the wash. The doc said they like to have at least 2 million for the best chance but we went ahead and went through with the procedure. Have you guys heard of a success with that low of a count? I'm trying to stay positive but it's very discouraging. This waiting game stinks.

Hi Fdub- All you need is one! (I know, I know you've probably heard that a million times and it's not all that comforting). But I'm sure that people have gotten a BFP with the count you mentioned. I can share with you my stats though- not sure it will help much, but it's all I've got to go on: We are on IUI #3 and we've had post wash counts of 16mil, 6mil and this last time 5 mil and the first two did not work. Still waiting to see how this last one pans out. All you can do is stay as positive as possible and try not to google too much. Has your DH had an SA done? I have read that if male infertility is a factor that most places would not recommend doing an IUI. Sending lots of baby dust your way!!

Stayinghopeful- thank you for the positive words! Yes, he had a SA done. He was on Clomid for 6 months but it actually decreased his testosterone and sperm count! (Which we're looking in to) Our doctor has almost 30 years of experience in IVF and after reviewing both of our charts said that since everything seemed to be in order with me, we should be good with just IUI.
Not sure if they expected the count to be as low as it was after the wash...

I'm very new to all this and unfortunately have to admit that I don't know as much as I probably should about the whole process.

Are you currently waiting for results? Good LUck!!

Hi Fdub – Your husband took Clomid? That’s interesting, haven’t heard that before! When we first started this process my husband’s count was good, but his motility was poor. He cut back on caffeine, took a daily multivitamin as well as a 1000mg daily vitamin C and he wore boxers as much as possible. And it made a huge difference! I don’t know if it could help improve count, but could be worth a shot. Also, you will learn very quickly about the whole process and learn more about your body than you ever knew before, lol! But my word of advice, try your hardest not to get obsessive about it. It really does you no good and only makes things that much harder, in my opinion :D

Stayinghopeful – any news yet? I feel like we’re in the same boat. Nearing the end of the TWW for IUI #3 (had mine on 5/31), and feeling rather calm and collected. I haven’t been obsessing this cycle either and it’s made the TWW so much easier! It took me quite a while to get here though. I think part of the reason I’m so calm this round is because I’m not feeling extremely hopeful. I only had one dominant follicle (had two the last two IUIs) and my husband’s motility had dropped slightly again. So if it works, it will be our little miracle baby. If it doesn’t, it’ll still hurt and I’ll still be sad, but I’m more prepared for it this time around.

Last time I posted, I asked about HSG and proceeded to have a little panic attack at all the answers. I haven’t had an HSG, and I’m on IUI #3. I started feeling like I was doing everything wrong and wasting my money. I talked to my doctor and while not everyone will agree with his process, he has this way of comforting me and calming my fears. He said we would do the HSG if I wanted, but he hasn’t because I have no risk factors, no symptoms and mostly male factor infertility. I know, I know – this doesn’t mean that there couldn’t be a blockage somewhere. But overall the chances of having anything wrong with my tubes are very very minimal. Also, all 3 IUIs have still cost me less than the HSG will. If this IUI doesn’t work I might consider it, but I also try to remember that every person’s body and every couple’s process is different. What worked for others might not work for me, and that’s ok.

Baby dust to all!

Hey ladies here's my update! AF showed up 14dpIUI :( sucks but for some reason I've been shaking it off. I had one day where I was extremely emotional about it and it sucked but I think I have been too busy to sit and dwell on the situation. My whole family knows about the iui so I mainly felt like I let everyone down. I scheduled an appointment with my fertility dr this Friday to see what happened and what we can do for the next iui. So good luck to all of you who are still in the fight! :)

Hi ladies!
Myazzie sorry about AF's ugly face!!! Was this your first IUI? Talk with your doc see what you can do different next cycle. How many follicles did you have? For this second IUI that I did, my doc added injectables. Those mugs were 2,000 bucks!!! needless to say, We are really praying this works or we will not be able to afford any more.

So I am officially in the TWW! IUI yesterday following day 3-7 of Femara and day 7-12 of Gonal F injections. I had to wait another two days for the second and third runners up to get bigger (follies). :x :x . I put my foot down that there was no way I am doing another IUI with just one follie. Day 10: Rt ovary 18.4 mm, 12.1 and 12.5. Left ovary: 10.4 mm and a big cyst 28mm. Day 13, with additional two shots: Rt follicle - 22.5mm, 16.7 and 9.1 mm. Left side: 10.6 mm. :? The cyst shrunk or what the heck was that??? Anyway. I was happy about the two follicles. I tell myself three. LOL! Hubby's numbers after wash - 10 mil. motility improved from 7 to 67%. We have had better numbers but we are happy about this all the same! Triggered Wednesday at Doc's office, 9 am. IUI next day at 11.30 am. MAJOR cramps. Could not walk upright after sitting even for a short time last night. better today. back hurts, and weird that taking deep breaths sort of hurts! best way to describe it is I feel like my uterus is raw. My lips are severely dry since I started on Gonal f. Edges of my lips are significantly darker than my skin or lips. No amount of lip balm, Vaseline or jojoba oil is enough to soak this mess to softness. The Ovidrel glow is coming in though! :D . Anyone else get that? I still cannot stand meats since Gonal F, the thought of it nauseates me. It is not fair that fertility drugs' side effects mimic real pregnancy symptoms. I mean, come on!!

FDub, I know Gonal F is also used to increase sperm count. Clomid is a common one for that too.
EOE, how is the journey on your end?

MrsRoulette- that was my second IUI. On the first iui I only had one follicle to work with so we figured it wouldn't stick. So this second one I had 5 great sized follicles but yet nothing hit! Dr explained that we're going to do one more round and if it doesn't happen than we will talk about our options ;( he said that three things could be going on 1. Husbands sperm is not swimming well enough 2. Tubes might be blocked which I doubt because my previous Dr did an hsg or 3. My eggs were not good enough. So we shall see! I don't know what else I should try this cycle. Any recommendations? I hear people using preseed, eating the pineapple core and more. Hopefully you get your BFP!

Myazzie, I'm with you on other options after this IUI!! Hubby's swimmers are severely directionally challenged and only do well when washed prior to the IUI.
It's amazing that the number of follicles has no direct relation to success rate. One good egg cuts it for some, then for some, like you 5 still fail. I don't do the preseed but I have seen it at Walmart. I'm not religious with the pineapple core either. I'm just a free bird I guess lol!! I have to consciously tell myself that there are things only science can control but ultimately it is God's will.
Price tag on IVF is always a discouraging factor for many since most insurances do not cover a single infertility treatment, meds, procedures, etc. I'm open to adoption whether I have my own kids or not. For now, I'm taking this tww and choosing not to look beyond it until the fate is confirmed.
Meanwhile, keeping busy. Volunteered 8 hrs today at my hospital's medical mission and was blessed beyond measure to see 500+ volunteers ready to serve the needy. I also now volunteer every other Sunday to baby sit the crawlers in my church day care for the first service then go for my 11.30 service. The drools, hugs, and cuddles are omg amazing!!! I'm also a full time post grad student, and work 40 hours a week. Not too much time to sit and feel sorry for myself. Too much to be thankful for!
How's everyone else doing?

I have 2 children from a previous relationship (age 6 and 9) conceived naturally with no problems. My current partner doesn't have any children and we've been TTC for nearly 2 years but found out last year he has azoospermia (where he doesn't create sperm at all). We left it for a while, saying we were happy with out lot, which we are, but still had the ache for a child that was ours, together.

About 6 months ago we started looking into our options, went to a fertility clinic where they totally ruled out surgical sperm retrieval saying our only option is donor sperm. So after a lot of talking and researching that is what we decided to do.

The Drs suggested iui as they say the only reason I am not getting pregnant is because I'm not in contact with sperm. So we did it, natural cycle with the injection 40 hours prior to ensure ovulation.

I am now 3dpiui and currently in the dreaded 2ww!! I keep wishing I could press a magic button and see what's going on in there, like everyone on here I guess. Had some cramping over the last 3 days (pretty constant actually) but fairly mild.

Anyone else on day3? Good luck to everyone xx
