PRE IUI ~ HALF FULL/ EMPTY BLADDER??

Postby mybaby88 » Wed Nov 01, 2017 5:47 pm

Dear all,

Do we need to have a half full bladder or empty bladder just before the iui peocedure?

At my REs , we are asked to empty the bladder (pas urine) before every transvaginal ultra sound.

But no one tells anything before iui procedure.

So , what do you ladies are asked to ?

I did some research in the internet. Its confusing.
Some say if you don't have an empty bladder it will help the RE to do the iui priicedure easliy.
some say it doesn't matter the bladder is full or not.

any inputs, ladies?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks danaa for our reply.

If embryo transfer needs full bladder, i guess its the same with iui.

Ill be soon meeting up with my RE for my D12 scan.
Hoping i get a clear answer from him.

On the instructions that I get from my RE office it says to fill your bladder while you are waiting the 45min for the sperm to be washed. So I would say a full bladder. Although I have had 3 IUI's and I never drink while waiting to have it done. I just don't use the restroom once I leave my house.

Ajb,

Thank you for your information.
Since you have got that instructions from the RE Office, I think I should also not empty the bladder.

So, I guess you hold it approximately 2 hours?

Will keep you posted with my REs instructions too.

Thanks again..

Yes, I would say it's about 1.5 to 2 hours from when I leave my house to when the procedure is actually done.

I met with my RE for my CD 12 US .
I asked him about this.

Well , sad to say he gave a very dull answer.
He is not concerned about it at all.

But fore sure I'm not going to have an empty bladder for iui.

Thanks dana and ajb.

I'm definitely going in to my IUI procedure with an empty bladder, I think I am not scanned before the procedure, I think I just do an ovulation test which is a dip stick so urine is required. But even if that was not the case, I am required to lay flat on the bed for at least 15 minutes after IUI. I don't want to be lay there dying for the toilet, also the last place I want my precious sperm to be is dangled over the toilet after IUI (I know there is no risk of losing it haha but still!!) I won't be urinating for a long time after IUI, as long as I can hold out!

It is so funny the tricks we play after an IUI. I usually try to hold it as long as possible afterwards. Like 2-3 hours for fear of losing the precious sperm, lol

Ladies, I was asked to empty the bladder , just before my pre iui scan. It was around 10.30 am. I was taken in for iui procedure around 1.00pm. Again i was asked by the nurse, to empty the bladder again, about 30 minutes before iui

So that was it.

I think each clinic applys their own methods.
But I still don't know which method is more suitable.

Thank you for the inputs ladies..

Thank you very much in advance....

Hi mybaby88, I was told to keep my bladder full prior to IUI. I usually empty my bladder prior to a vag ultrasound, but for my IUI procedure they told me to make sure my bladder was full. The fuller the better according to my RE DR. Hope that helps!
