Starting injections next cycle...AHHH

Postby frankme1 » Tue Feb 04, 2014 8:55 am

Unless I am miraculously pregnant this cycle I will be starting injections next Friday. I am somewhat terrified to give myself the shots but I have heard so many women do it and say that its painless so I know I'll get through it. Anyone else starting around the same time?

I will be starting my first cycle with injections this cycle too. AF should be here tomorrow and then I will start follistim on CD6.... I've talked to a few friends who have also done injections and they said its fairly easy in the belly flab :) doesn't hurt too bad and it just takes some getting used to. FX for you!

I'm glad to hear more stories about how it's easy! Sounds like you will be a few days ahead of me. Are you doing trigger and IUI also?

Yes I will be doing trigger and IUI along with oral Femara (CD3-7)

I found this video earlier from stirrup queens (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fADyj_nLKqs) it shows how easy it is she is giving gonal-f which is the same thing as follistim. Maybe that will ease your nerves.. it did mine for sure!

Odd thing, but I was more nervous about screwing up the dosage of the meds rather than fearing the needle. I did try to give it to myself in the belly and yeah, that was a no-go. I found it easier (for me) to just inject in my thigh.

This time I am doing two injections. I am doing Menopur instead of taking clomid (New for me) and still using Bravelle. The Menopur stings far more than the Bravelle :(

Hi Ladies, I was wondering if I can join the conversation. Next cycle i will be starting injectables, nervous and excited at same time. How are you ladies doing? How has your experience been this far?

Hey Franny- I will be taking my sixth shot tonight. They are super easy! The mental game I played with myself was way worse than the physical part. The needle is so tiny and you seriously cannot even feel it go in. I did 75iu for the first 4 days and then had blood work and ultrasound yesterday and they boosted me up to 100iu. I go back in Friday to see where we're at!

Hi frankme, I don't think the needles will bother me, I've given myself a trigger shot the last 4 cycles. I'm more nervous about side effects... Have you had any? Is tomorrow your last injection? I hope you get your BFP this cycle :)

Franny- I'm a really bad at spotting side effects because I feel like I am always a mess haha, but I have noticed a little cramping, I'm very gassy  and my face has broken out a bit. Nothing bad at all. I never really had side affects with clomid either so maybe I just don't get them.

I doubt tonight will be my last injection, but I'm hoping tomorrow after the blood work and ultrasound that the doc says take it for 2-3 more days then trigger. We shall see.

Frankme, if you don't mind me asking, roughly how much are the injections?

I don't mind you asking at all, but I don't know if my info will be any good. I am lucky enough to have some fertility coverage on my insurance, so I have a $75 out of pocket maximum per 30 day supply. So my follistim only cost me $75. But I will share some info that may help. My doc gave me a list of prices of the procedures that are part of one cycle, so includes ultrasounds and insemination. The cost of the procedures together is $1,296 and she told me the max I should be ready to pay if no insurance is $2,000. So I'm thinking the difference in $2,000 and $1,296 is what the meds would cost. $700 sounds kind of cheap to me from what I have heard other girls say on here, but just thought I would share that.

Thanks for the info Frankme. I live in Canada so I don't pay for any of the ultrasounds or blood work. I will only have to pay for the mess because my benefits plan doesn't cover the injections, but it does cover Femara and ovidrel, so I think I'm looking at $500-$600. I find out tomorrow if I'm pregnant or not (I feel AF coming so it won't be a surprise if I'm not) and ill be contacting the nurse to start the process of injections. My RE seem certain that they will work for me... I'm hoping he's right.

How are you doing? Did ovulation occur? Any symptoms?

I think $500-$600 is a good estimate. Hopefully that will not be too much of a burden for you. It will be worth it if it results in a baby!

I am just ovulating today. Had my IUI this morning. So no symptoms! The two week wait begins....

So did AF arrive?

Hi frankme,
How are you feeling today? Nope AF hasn't started yet but I want her to hurry up because I'm anxious now... After much discussion and going back and forth we have decided to do the injections this cycle with timed intercourse and if that doesn't work then we are into injections with iui in the summer as I can't do it until then.... Are you only doing one wash or will you do another one today? I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you!!!

Hey Franny- so is AF late or still in the two week wait? Good luck with the injections! They really are not that bad at all, although the change in hormones seems to be hitting me now instead of while taking the injections, but who knows about that. Will they do ultrasounds and blood work to track you progress? If so then timed intercourse should work well because there will be no guessing game. Are you going to do the trigger shot?

We only did one wash/insemination. I'm hoping that did the trick. It's going to be a long two week wait. And actually I found out that it is going to be even longer then two weeks! They are having me do another HCG "booster" shot at 7DPO. So it's the same as the trigger shot but a lower dose. I'm not 100% sure why but they said it helps the lining. But just like the trigger shot does it will make a HPT show positive. They said I can't get an accurate test until 10 days after the HCG shot so that means 17DPO! AHHH! Even though by then I should know if I missed my period or not, but will be torture not to be able to test!
