Male Factor Secondary Infertility with varicocele

Postby Lindsaycat13 » Wed Dec 18, 2013 10:30 am

Hi guys,

I'm Lindsay and I just turned 31. DH is Sean and he is 32. We have a beautiful 2 and a half year old daughter named Savannah who we conceived on our own in our first month of trying. Now it has been 18 months of TTC#2 :(. Sean found out he had a varicocele in 2007 but since we had no trouble conceiving in 2010 we thought it wouldn't be an issue. He has had a few sperm analysis' done this year and his count was low, motility was decent (always around 50% fast moving although I don't know that that means forward moving) but his morphology was 3% in March, 2% in August and 1% on his most recent 2 sperm analysis'. His abnormal head sperm percentage is 99%. We have done 2 IUI's which were both unsuccessful and we were going to do IVF next month. Then we FINALLY got in to see the urologist after 10 months on the wait list and he has Sean slated for varicocele embolization in January so we are going to see if that works before doing IVF. I have been doing LOTS of reading and it is so hard to find answers as to whether we have a hope with the embolization. Sean's uncle had no trouble conceiving his first and then they TTC'd #2 for 6 years. Then he had the embolization and they were pregnant within 2 months! I haven't heard many cases like this though. We are slated for 3 IUI cycles starting the month after his surgery and I usually grow 2-3 mature eggs on IUI cycles (clomid and HCG shot).

Anyone have a success story with varicocele embolization or surgery????????? I'd love to text with people who are in the same boat. Let me know if that interests any of you :).

Thanks!

Lindsay :)

We don't have any male factor issues but we too conceived the 1st month for our 1st child and having issues this time around. Just wanted to say I hope the surgery goes well and works for you! Is it a long recovery period before you can TTC again?

Thank you!

There is no recovery time for the embolization as it less invasive and is just performed by a radiologist- we can ttc the same month as long as the surgery doesn't fall on the same day!
