TTC #2 - Feeling defeated

Postby sp3810 » Wed Apr 02, 2014 10:31 am

Hi All,,Just found this web site and it's awesome!
Hubby and I have been TTC for 19 months now. We conceived our first baby without any issues, but now #2 just isn't happening. We have done 3 cycles of clomid 100mg day 3-7 with IUI. Hubby's counts were 10mil, 12mil, 1 mil...That 3rd one was a shocker for me :(
Negative pg tests for all 3 cycles. My RE tried to push us to do IVF or ICSI, but my insurance doesn't cover those procedures. So basically if meds and IUI can't get us pregnant...It's not gonna happen :(
I am taking April off to let me body rest. They want me to start Gonal F injections in May and IUI.
I'm just getting down because I feel like it's never gonna happen again for us.
Hubby has started taking a GNC fertility vitamin and I am getting him to eat better. Does caffeine intake really have any impact??? I can't get him to cut down on his coffee lol.

Hi Sp,

Sorry you're having such a hard time and :welcome:

Yes, caffiene does affect sperm...as does alcohol and smoking. However, if he's only have a couple cups of coffee a day I wouldn't worry about it. I know how you feel though, we haven't gotten to the point of Sperm Analysis yet but my DH's drinking and coffee consumption really bother me. He used to drink at least a pot of coffee a day but he did cut that back. However, getting him to stop drinking a lot on weekends just isn't going to happen :?

Since it sounds like it's mainly your DH that's the issue, what life style changes has he made? As there is a LOT of natural things he can do to improve his count! Things like losing weight if he is overweight, taking coQ10, zinc, selenium, etc. They can also give fertility drugs to men sure. Wasn't sure from your post if you both were on the clomid or not.
BFP on Friday Feb 3rd 2017 but ended in miscarriage at 7 1/2 weeks :(

Didn't chart this time, last time was TTC for over a year, BFP chart from daughter :D :

Hi happy!! Thank you for responding to my post! DH was not put on Clomid. He started taking a fertility multivitamin and will also take proxeed plus.
He does drink a lot of coffee so that's the next thing I need him to conquer lol.

Hi Sp3810! I am on the same frustrating journey. DD was born July 2010, conceived the first month we tried. We've been trying for #2 since January 2012. I tried clomid for 3 months last fall, no success. I had all the tests done, and DH provided 3 samples. We fall into unexplained secondary infertility. I just had my first iui in March and it was a fail. Gearing up for a second. I don't have great advice, just know you are not alone!!

you're definitely not alone! we also had no issues conceiving DS, but now it's been going on 7years of TTC #2. had 5 IUI's, #4 produced first BFP in years! but sadly, i m/c'd. just did our first and only IVF this month, transferring 2 embies tomorrow (hopefully). our insurance didn't cover anything. we paid $3400 in meds and will be paying $9000 for the whole procedure. it's not cheap and it sucks...but i know i would always wonder..."what if" if we didn't try it. good luck to you!!

I'm right there with you. No problems with the first, but we've been trying for almost three years. I'm currently going through my second chemical pregnancy :(

Hello ladies, can I join? First time pregnant we we’re trying and had an oops, so that was really quick. I m/c’d, then 3 months later surprise again with BFP! Beautiful son who just turned 6. We started TTC #2 almost 2 years ago, we are on our 18th cycle. My ovaries look good, producing lots of follicles. DH has never got a SA done, but doc said he is probably fine. I don’t know if I can get him to do it just to get it out of the way. Anyways, might be my high blood sugar, weight or just stress about TTC that is causing this secondary fertility. I just started on Metformin to lower my blood sugar and lose some weight. So far in 3 weeks, 7 lbs gone. I hear it helps with ovulation too. I’ve heard ladies get pregnant easily on it, so hope that happens in my case! I just turned 36 so my clock is ticking. I want this baby so bad, I hope it happens for us. On CD16 right now, instead of focusing on the middle of the cycle for O time, we’ve been BDing every 2 days since I don’t know the exact time I O. I must be Oing right at the moment since the urge to BD was so strong on the weekend and we BD’d 3 times yesterday! That’s a record for us, LOL.

Hi ladies! I have been TTC #2 for 19 months. I am beginning to lose hope. Our first child was fairly quick, but this time around things are so much different. Unexplained infertility sucks! I keep questioning everything and I am fearful that this is just never going to happen for us. Anyone get that diagnosis and get a BFP later on?
