Unexpected BFP after many years of trying!

Postby Vault101 » Sat Jan 26, 2019 1:35 pm

Hi ladies! Long one here but hope it's useful/interesting for some.

I've been on and off this forum for several years now. My OH and I have been trying for just over five years.

BUT before that I was in two other long term relationships. In the first, we just weren't very careful. In the second, we were actively trying. It's honestly a blessing that it never happened as both turned out to be complete dicks - but also means my total time NTNP/TTC is probably 11 years.

Anyway late 2016 me and OH finally decide to see the doctor, start having all the tests and everything. He's fine, but I'm not ovulating on my own at all, and probably never have been.

So, we do six months Clomid. Six big fat negatives to go with it. They stop the Clomid, and we're referred to the IVF clinic.

December 2018 we finally get an appointment. They say we're good candidates for IVF, just need some routine tests - for me, a scan on day 12. I'm to call them when my next period starts. BUT it starts over xmas, when the clinic is shut. So I have to wait for the January 2019 cycle to book it.

So we wait. And we wait. And we wait. No AF in Jan. Gets to yesterday - about CD36 of a usual 28-day cycle.

Here's me thinking it's a screwy cycle - a hangover from the Clomid maybe. Or worse, has the menopause caught me?! I feel like AF coming - sore boobs, tired, hungry, a bit nauseous, plenty of cramps. But nothing starts.

So, just in case something weird's going on and I'm ovulating on my own, but very late, I do an OPK. It's a really strong positive, way darker than the control line and comes up right away. Hmmm... Google says perhaps BFP.

Curiosity peaks, and today in town I buy two HPTs. I do one right there in the shopping centre. Window is blank. Expecting my 1000th or more BFN, I just pop it in my handbag and go to leave. BUT something makes me check it, and I see two bold lines. Get home, do the other - same result. BFP. In shock, we buy and do a digi test: Pregnant, 2-3 weeks.

I think there honestly is hope for anyone, if we can achieve a BFP. There's going to be a lot of worrying over next few weeks, because given how hard our journey's been so far, we're not counting this as a success right away. Hopefully baby sticks. But the fact that we've been able to at least conceive (and naturally, too), after all these years and so much heartache, is beyond a miracle.

Pics for reference - 2 x HPT tests; 1 x digi HPT test; 1 x OPK - all positive

Thanks! We're not taking the result for granted right now though. We've got a long way to go yet to get to 12 weeks, when I think I will start to relax a bit and believe it's actually happening.
After all we've been through to get here, that positive result feels like a miracle. Now I'm basically scared to move in case something I do screws it up for us haha! Keeping fingers, toes, everything crossed that this is finally our time. Will pop back to this thread with updates as and when. :)

Thanks all, and good luck in your own journeys.

May I recommend Hull IVF Clinic to UK folk. I mean, they're so good that just shaking hands with their doctor clearly did the trick for us, hahaha!

Attached is today's HPT. I can't get appointment with GP for another week, so until then I have to be content with checking in with the little bean this way. Each positive is still a shock, can't quite believe it yet.

Just checking in. All still going well. We had a scan at 8+3, saw the little bean with its little fluttery heartbeat. Measuring spot on for the dates we thought, so due end of September. This Saturday we will hit the 12-week mark, and on Monday we have the 12-week scan.
Sooooo, all good so far. Still keeping fingers crossed for good news on Monday, but judging by the size of me, and how sick I've been feeling, I'm pretty sure everything is going fine so far.

Thank you for sharing such an aspirational story. I hope things work out for us as well. We have been trying for about more than 5 years now. We are currently at the start of the IVF process. Really hoping that it works for us. For this second cycle, we even changed to a different clinic. They offer better services and also have experienced doctors. Do pray for us.
