Blighted ovum. Anyone else experience it?

Postby sammie1991 » Thu Feb 09, 2012 7:34 pm

.Last night I had extreme cramps to the point of crying so I went to the hospital and while waiting I used the restroom and passed through a thick rubbery material that was not a blood clot and my pain went away. It turns out I had a blighted ovum. In short it basically was it grew the sac but the embryo did not grow so my body basically thought I was pregnant so it continued to grow until it realized I wasn't and tried to get rid of it.

I am somewhat realeved because I have always had regualr periods until a couple months ago so I am hoping that this was just the problem and my periods will go back to normal.

On the other hand I am nervous. Does this mean I'm going to have problems conceiving? If anyone has some information can you help me out on understanding it a little better?[/quote]

Sorry for your loss, how far along were you?

Blighted ovum are quite common and can happen to any woman, having it happen does not make you more prone to having it happen. Sperm meeting egg is just not always a perfect thing, and sometimes things do not develop as they should, very random.

The blighted ovum would be unrelated to how regular or irregular your menstrual cycles are.

Blighted ovum/mmc

Postby AllForSomething » Fri Feb 10, 2012 3:57 pm

I had a blighted ovum but didn't find out until I was '10 weeks' so they called it a MMC was and still am pretty devastated, I had to have a medically managed miscarriage which was very dramatic.
Thing with mine is that my hormone levels were really high and I even looked pregnant. To me, because I knew I was 'pregnant' for quite some time it has hit me hard. It's great that you can rationalize it. It is just one of those things and 'just happens' but it doesn't make it much easier if you really wanted a baby. DH and I had been ttc for quite some time before it happened. I hope you can find peace and look to the future. Good luck

I have had 3 blighted ovums that have all been missed miscarriages in the last year. Very heartbreaking. My DH and I have had all the testing done and all are normal. The doctors call it "unexplained infertility" and are confused why this is happening. I had 3 easy pregnancies already, but cannot carry a baby now for unknown reasons! It is heartbreaking :(

the misdiagnosedmiscarriage.com website has useful information if you are looking for some facts/answers in the 'blighted ovum FAQ' section.

i suffered one in october 2011 and am sorry to say my story does not have a happy ending yet...i miscarried again now in march 2012

keep the faith though, no one situation is 'typical' here, everyone's different xx
