When to stop trying with clomid???

Postby anniegirl » Wed Aug 08, 2012 6:46 am

Ok, so this month my period appears to be a day late but very very light, lighter than before, and it is always light with clomid. Of course I have done a test, just in case it is implantation bleeding, which I had when I fell pregnant before. Unfortunately it is a BFN, so I started clOmid last night. This is now my fifth month on the higher dose, when do people think enough is enough? I got pregnant before on lower does after three cycles, but it just isn't working this time?

the information i have says that if it hasnt worked within 3 cycles, the chances it will work are much lower than in the first 3 cycles.
I have, however just finished my 6th cycle 100mg clomid (i did 3 cycles, then had surgery, and around a year later did another 3 cycles).
That second line will just not appear...
Good luck to you.
TTC over 3 years. 6 cycles 100mg Clomid, 5 BFNs 1 Ectopic. Lap and fertility testing, DX Unexplained Infertility.
BFP 8/12: Ectopic pregnancy - treated unsucessfully with Methotrexate, then surgically removed in emergency surgery.
10/12: Found out my right tube is deformed and my left tube is badly damaged from the Ectopic pregnancy. Advised to move onto IVF because I have almost no chance of conceiving naturally.

I'm starting my third cycle of clomid on Saturday. My doc has already said if this one doesn't work we're moving on. I think the general rule of thumb is 3 cycles. However, it also depends on why your taking it. I don't ovulate at all on my own, but if someone ovulates and is using the clomid to get the eggs more mature, then i see the docs trying for longer.

drs have given me 9 rounds total and no more. 3rounds at 50mg which havnt worked well and will be upped to 100mg next month if i am not pg this time. my OH sperm count is good but motility is low like 29% i dont ovulate regularly so we just wernt getting the even chances we should have been getting had we had both been healthy. i am going for observation next cycle to see how 100mg is working. 50mg has made me ovulate but the drs have said its week so 100 should do the trick

My RE said that we would try a Clomid for three months before we needed to combine it with other measures (such as Clomid assisted by an IUI). But I think it depends on where you're getting your treatment.
