Exercise opinions needed

Postby Niecie » Wed Oct 03, 2007 8:42 pm

I'm considering getting an exercise bike to help me lose weight. I don't currently have any sort of work out or exercise schedule going and I'm hoping for something I can do in the comfort of my own home and still get some sort of results... what do you ladies think? You guys got any kind of time frame or routine that might help someone that wants to lose weight but doesn't feel a gym or walking outside (i live in a dangerous neighborhood) is an option? I live in an apartment building so I was thinking a treadmill would shake the floor if i were to jog on it and that would mess with the ppl under me. So I was thinking something like an exercise bike or a stair-stepper. Any advice would be great. i've been ttc for a very long time and maybe my weight has something to do with why it's so hard.

I think a stationary bike would be a good idea to get, you can go on it while you watch your favorite shows. It makes the time on it go by faster and I think thats a good thing. I agree you might not want a treadmill because unless you buy the really expensive ones, they make a lot of noise. I also do other exersizes while watching TV, I have little wieghts and I do some arm work and then I do 200 crunches a night atleast, these kind of things can make a big difference and I am watching my shows anyways so I just tell myself why not do the exersize too. After awhile it gets easier.
I hope this helps a little, I also go to the gym as my routine most days but since you didnt want the gym I thought I would let you know what I do at home!
Good luck and You can do it!!!

I know this is a kinda old thread, but thought I'd chime in anyway.

Stationary bikes are ok, but if you have the money, I would recommend getting an eliptical machine.
They're very quiet and it works out more than just your legs. I'm pretty sure that most elipticals have the moving bar things now (like you're skiing) so more body movement while you're working out means more calories that's being burned.

I seriously suggest DDR (Dance Dance Revolution). It is a video game and while a lot of people dismiss it because of that fact, I find that its VERY fun, with a wide range of well known songs and it doesn't even feel like exercise, but you're burning calories like crazy! It's incredible easy to play for a full hour or more. It really gets your heart pumping and builds some really nice calf and buttocks muscles to boot! It helped me lose 4lbs in my first week of playing it! :)

Here's a segment from the Today Show about two people who lost weight from the game:

If any of you ladies have already lost because of DDR I'd love to hear your story, or if any of you decide to give it a go, I'd love to hear how it goes for you too :)

Take care now!

Good for you! Exercise bikes are perfect for weight loss. I bought a crazysales Genki exercise bike and used almost every day. Among the fundamentals for with a exercise bike in your fat-burning workout is to determine regularly. Your workouts don't all have to be high intensity, but repetition is the key. If you can maintain a vigorous pace, aim for 150 minutes on the bike every week, though a standard exercise guideline for fat loss is 300 minutes of medium-intensity cardiovascular exercise per week. Make sure to meet this guideline in no more than five days, permitting a few recovery days.

Hi,

Some of the exercises that should be a part of a weight-loss program in the initial stages include Kegels, floor bridges, walking lunges. I suppose these would be easy exercises, to begin with until you get used to this physical exertion.
