Help! TTC 14 months!

Postby duckie88 » Wed Jan 10, 2018 10:40 pm

I'm really starting to get down about a lot of things. My hubby and I have been TTC for 14 months now. I'm now 29. I can off the pill Nov 2016 and had been on it for over 15 years. My cycles were very irregular as a kid and never regulated so I was put on the pill at 13 and stayed on it until we were ready for a baby. My problem now is I still have cycles all over the place, the longest being 84 days and the shortest 32. It's making the timing incredibly difficult as I'm also a shift worker. I have sought help from my local doctor who can't determine whether or not I have PCOS. My ovaries have a high level of cysts, but the AMH and hormones tests all came back normal so no definite answer. She has put me on Metformin, but I can't tell if it working. I have also been using OPKs and this month I got a positive result on CD28. I retested on CD30 and got a really strong result, like the test line was heaps darker than control line and I've never had that before. So I assumed I Od on that day. I'm now at CD40 and too scared to take a HPT cause I'm sure it will be a BFN. Just wondering if there is anyone else out there like me, looking for advice or success stories to try and get me out of the 'Im never gonna be a mum' pit I've fallen in to. Dr has given me a referral letter to a specialist but if tests all came back inconclusive then I'm not sure what a specialist can do either. Help!

I understand how you feel. I have also been trying for 14 months, I got pregnant in Sept but I had a mmc and had a d&c on 10/31. A specialists can help confirm weather or not you have pcos and maybe put you on meds to make you ovulate. I used to have cycles that were all over the place ( but I have endometriosis) I took me 1.5 years to conceive my son and pregnancy "fixed" my cycle because now im at a 29-31 day cycle. Dont give up !

Thanks JMS. I guess I'm more scared than anything about seeing a specialist but I've got to start looking at it from a different perspective, that he or she knows more than my go and can help in more ways.

I know how you feel. You are thinking that it's everything over and you don't have the strength to go on. You will find some more strength for such a great goal. I believe that specialist can help you. Even 14 months isn't so long time to start worry immediately, my advice is to visit a specialist and do some more tests.

You should trust a specialist. You are not alone in this. A specialist has many cases like yours each day and how to make it better. Find a good specialist and listen what he or she will say to you. Have faith, you still have a chance to conceive.

Have you tried adding temping to your regimen? Opks only detect an LH surge, they don't confirm that you have/will ovulate. The only way to know for sure if/when you O'd will be to track temperature changes. Often times, you can have multiple LH surges before ovulation actually happens (happened to me on the month of my bfp--two sets of + opks 5-6d apart), and with irregular periods it's highly likely that this could be the case for you. Since you had +opk at CD30, you might not get any sort of definitive answer at CD40, which would likely be somewhere in the 9-10dpo range. The typical LP will be somewhere in the 11-15d range. So I would say to test >CD45 to ensure the best possible outcome. If hpt is negative at that point, and AF is still a no-show, it's likely that the +opks CD28-CD30 was your body's unsuccessful attempt to ovulate. Without temps, you won't know for sure if it happened.

Have you used any of the charting apps available? They help to track temps and symptoms to help pinpoint ovulation. Once you confirm O with temps (3d of sustained high temps above pre-O temps), you should see AF or a bfp 10-15d later. www.fertilityfriend.com is a popular app. There's a free version to help get you started....

Thanks RoloCat. I haven't tried temping yet purely because I'm a shift worker. I can't temp at the same time every day and I've been told it's best to do it when you wake up. I do a mixture of day shift, afternoon shift and night shifts. The first two I can make work but on night shift it's impossible as I don't finish work till 730am. I have my specialist referral booked in for 19th Feb so it's something I can possibly bring up with them too.

Hi everyone. I decided to post here because I have similar experience. So, my husband and I have been TTC for 2 and a half years. We did all sorts of checks, everything seems perfect. Did the spermogram, and I did HyCoSy that was also perfect.
My last period was on 6th of January, and we had unprotected sex on the 14th, 16th, 17th, 18th, 19th and 20th. Since I went on a business trip on 21st. I am having stomach cramps for the last three days , and my cycles are regular (27-28 days) I am expecting my period on the 1st February. It is too early for me to have cramps due to my period but it has already happened to me before. So, I need your advice. If I get my period, which is most likely to happen, on the 1st of February, what do you think I should do next? Should I do some other checks?
Fingers crossed!
:)

Hi duckie, I'm 33 trying since 2016 I had a mc in Nov of 2016. I would ask to have a hsg test done and the male factor. Thats were we are right now. I switched drs. She's amazing and has done more then the other dr ever did. She's very good. Im very happy I switched. Hsg test is tomorrow. Keep your head up its all about timing, and knowing your doing everything you can to get pregnant. If you want a good book that helped me. "The impatient womens guide to pregnancy" it's great! Good luck BD!

Thanks Julelabee! I'll definitely look that book up. I'll likely keep posting updates here as we go through the process of specialists. For one, to help others who might be feeling the same and for two, it's actually helping my mind set to get it all out there and speak with the wonderful women here. First app is 19th Feb.

Hello! I ttc for over 2 years when a simple blood test revealed I have subclinical hypotension— which is common and corrected with a cheap, generic prescription for synthetic thyroid. I got pregnant the first month on it.

My hsg went awful :( idk if the doctor knew what he was doing. He couldn't find my cervix and he pinched me real bad with the clamp thingy :(.had to get another doctor to get it out :( I'm so disappointed. He said my uterus and cervix is tilted. But i think he was unsure of what he was doing Rough day. :(

ugh! how awful! I feel for you. Sometimes I wonder what they learn in med school. Hope you get a better one for any further testing. Best of luck.

That does sound awful :( hope you're feeling a bit better now. I had a tough day today. DH just got his results back and everything is fine, infact better than fine as he has double the average volume and normal range of motility. I know I shouldn't get upset or blame myself but it's really hard not to. Especially when as yet I have no definitive answers and a week to wait until my first specialist appointment. Also, this cycle I've come in at a record low 27days. This has never happened my whole life. So my cycles now range from 84 longest to 27 days shortest. And I haven't changed anything in my diet or routine than normal. Ugh!

So I've finally been to the specialist and have been confirmed to have polycystic ovaries, I just don't have the syndrome. However I have been on Metformin for one full cycle now and it did give me a 27 day cycle so it is still a matter of wait and see. Egg count is in the higher but still normal range so time is not an issue. Specialist is hopeful that if Metformin can give me regular cycles then we can conceive naturally. So still just a waiting game here.
