Early Pregnancy Symptoms and Big Fat Positives

BFP 10 DPO using Femara, the miracle drug!

My husband is 41 and I am 39. I have severe PCOS and don’t ovulate on my own, never have. Our journey began 16 years ago when we got married. For the first 6 years of our marriage we did all we could to conceive. I had 2 HSGs, 2 Laparoscopies (endo was found, and my tubes were twisted, so the Dr fixed all that), then I had a hysteroscopy done to clean out polyps inside my uterus. Then we did 4 IUIs with injectables and trigger shot. On the 4th IUI, I developed mild Ovarian Hyper-Stimulation Syndrome (OHSS) and the cycle was almost cancelled. Luckily it wasn’t cancelled and I got pregnant! My son was born Dec. 2004 (2 months premature). I had a very scary and very high risk pregnancy with him, so we put trying for #2 on hold for a few years. Almost 2 years ago, when our son turned 8, we decided to try for #2 because as my Dr put it: “Time is running out!” I had another HSG done, and things looked good, so we began treatments. We did 4 cycles using Femara, and trigger shot, and did not do IUI, but did timed intercourse. After the 4th cycle failed, my Dr did a Laparoscopy and found my right ovary was twisted and attached to my abdominal wall, plus more endometriosis. He cleaned all that up, but couldn’t get dye to go through my tubes. So a few weeks later, I had my 4th HSG.
Once I was all recovered, we went in to begin our 5th cycle. The Dr told us that if this last one failed, then he wanted to do IVF. We were devastated since we had already spent so much on treatments, drugs and then the surgery. We were out of money! But thankfully, we avoided IVF on this final attempt! Here is how it played out:

cd 5-9: Femara 2.5 mg 3X a day
Ultrasound scan on cd 18 showed on dominant follicle on the left
Trigger shot on cd 20
Had sex that night and two nights after
1 DPO: symptoms of OHSS (Bloating, lots and lots of painful bloating) Drank a gallon of Gatorade and felt better by 2 DPO
2 DPO: felt normal, no symptoms, drank more gatorade
3 DPO: Started Progesterone, drank more gatorade
4-6 DPO: No real symptoms, felt fine, BBs a little sore, but chalked it up to the progesterone pills I was taking, but had intense dreams, even dreamed I was breastfeeding a baby
7-9 DPO: sore throat, tired, hubby too, so we thought we were getting the flu. I was also emotional at the most random times.
10 DPO: woke up from a vivid dream with slight cramping on the left (same side as dominant follicle) felt different all day. Sore throat was still there, but no other symptoms
11 DPO: realized that I didn’t have any pregnancy tests at home for “Test Day” so I quickly ran to the Dollar store and grabbed 3. Came home and thought, “What the hell, let’s waste one just to get it out of my system” Came up positive right away!
12 DPO: tested using FMU on Dollar test and it came up positive. Called the Dr, got a blood test in right before the office closed
13 DPO: Dr called: hCG was 78 and progesterone was 32.6. I was pregnant!!!! And not only was I pregnant, but this cycle lined up almost to the day I got my BFP with my son 10 years ago!
14 DPO: tested BFP using First Response, just because I wanted to see my BFP again!

Comments

I am on Femara too, and today at 6 DPO I have had a horrible soar throat all day. Here is hoping I am the same boat as you.
