Early Pregnancy Symptoms and Big Fat Positives
Natural BFP at 43
I was lurking and promising myself like others that if successful I would share what I did to get here. I conceived my DS at 39 with no issue and was 40 when he was born. I knew though that trying for a second would be a very uncertain road at my age. Looking back we were really lucky to conceive after only about 16 months of concerted effort. During that time I had two failed IVF cycles and travelled long haul for work away from my husband for seven 3 week trips and missed quite a few opportunities making the outcome even luckier, statistically speaking. I also trawled the internet, consulted a snake oil naturopath, charted, and took a buttload of supplements to help regulate my cycle. These included vitamins B (group) C, D, E (tocotrienols as well as tocopherols), magnesium myo-inositol, alpha lipoic acid, vitex, ubiquinol and red maca. I also ate two eggs for breakfast every day (gross!). I also cut out all alcohol and caffeine and soy and cold drinks and gee life was dull. As I added more and more to the daily mix it was interesting to see the effects. My BBT became much more stable and predictable and easier to map to my ovulation symptoms. My luteal phase lengthened slightly from 7or 8 days to 9 or 10. The follicular phase actually lengthened, annoyingly. The long weeks of jet lag from the 10 hour time differences made it harder too but I doubt they had much impact in the end. In the end I would put my money on the ubiquinol (500mg daily before tapering down to 200mg per day) and the red maca. Gross but I think that's what did it. A small disclaimer that I had a high AMH and low FSH at 42, and am in good physical shape. BFP Symptoms were same as all the BFN cycles (headaches, cramps, bloating) except for tender nipples from 6DPO, same as other pregnancy. Squinter BFP on IC at 11DPO when temps stayed up. Lines gradually got stronger then two strong lines 13DPO on FRER. Am now at 35 weeks and 4 days after a complication-free pregnancy. Tired and looking forward to welcoming LO to the outside not long before I turn 44. Wishing all of you the best of luck.
