'09.
Hello and blessings to all. I am 29 and my husband
is 30. He is a youth counselor and I am a studying
my way through grad school to become a behavioral
scientist/ researcher in the field of public
health. We've been together since summer 2002 and
got married on or 5th anniversary on July 7,
2007.
The best news at the moment is that we are
expecting our first child! We have been trying
since February 2008 and finally conceived in May
2008. This is a blessing because I have been
diagnosed with a Prolactinoma which has previously
given us problems in our conceiving efforts. But
God has the right timing on everything right?
A Prolactinoma is a condition in which a
noncancerous tumor (adenoma) of the pituitary
gland in your brain overproduces the hormone
prolactin. The major effect of increased prolactin
is a decrease in normal levels of sex hormones —
estrogen in women and testosterone in men.
Although prolactinoma isn't life-threatening, it
can cause visual impairment, infertility and other
effects.
For mem the main complication was having elevated
levels of the hormone prolactin. This causes
disruption of the reproductive system
(hypogonadism), and some of the signs and symptoms
of the prolactinoma are unique for each sex.
In some cases, there aren't any signs and
symptoms. But my symptoms (when not taking my
medicine) included:
- Irregular menstrual periods (oligomenorrhea)
or lack of menstrual periods (amenorrhea),
and
- Lack of energy
Doctors often are able to effectively treat
prolactinomas with medications to restore your
prolactin level to normal. Surgery to remove the
pituitary tumor also may be an option to treat
prolactinoma. Thankfuly, my tumor is small enough
not to call for surgery.
[img]I just take
medicine that keeps my prolactin low, my periods
regular and me fertile.
So here we are expecting #1. I have been having
regular periods in 2008, no breast leaks and a
better sex life. In the past two years (prior to
2008) I was very irregular, as a matter of fact I
don't remember a period in 2007. Thank God for
medicine!
I am on this website to give and receive support
as well as to give and receive knowledge. I love
to pray for people--let me know if you would like
another one!
Thanks for taking the time
out to get to know me. Please keep in touch if you
feel the urge.
God bless you!
