TTC Trend Watch ~ Oh Joy! Another Soy BFP!
If you've been surfing TTC boards online recently, you've probably run across several posts from women proclaiming the mighty power of "Soy Isoflavones." If not, you are probably thinking "Soy Isowhat?" Yes, my TTC friends, the underpriviledged step sister to the infamous Clomid pill has made her big stage debut... and she's garnering some impressive reviews. But before you stop reading the rest of this article and burn rubber to the nearest vitamin store, let me encourage you to research it for yourself before trying any new supplement regimen. (And as always, you should consult your doctor trying anything new.) But I digress...
 "Soy Isoflavones" is a natural plant derived phytoestrogen (phyto means plant), which is an anti-estrogen, just like Clomid. Both are known as SERMs (Selective Estrogen Receptor Modulators). It works by fooling your brain into thinking its estrogen levels are low. This causes your body to reslease more FSH & LH which helps stimulate follicle production (same as Clomid). You take Soy Isoflavones, like Clomid, on CD 1-5 or 2-6, or 3-7 or 5-9. It is not thought to cause infertility if it is only taken for 5 days a month. There is not much published information available on it regarding TTC, because it is "natural", not patented by the pharmaceutical companies, and not FDA approved. Most doctors will also not recommend it for this reason.
Recently, many women on FertilityFriend.com have been taking 150-160mg a day for 5 days at the beginning of the menstrual cycle (on days previously mentioned). Side effects reported are similar to Clomid. These vary from increased number of headaches to hot flashes. It has been suggested that taking the dosage before bedtime lessens the side effects.
I was doing some research on FertilityFriend.com to uncover just how many girls have recently conceived while on Soy Isoflavones and what days they took the supplement. I found a girl who took it on CD 1-5, 200mg Soy Isoflavones, and she got a strong BFP at 15dpo that cycle. Her chart can be viewed here. Her HCG levels at 15dpo were 443 and at 18dpo HCG 1,347. Impressive. I found a survey on FF that was interesting as well:
What was interesting is that 75% of the women who tried Soy Isoflavones got a BFP in their FIRST cycle trying. I checked the survey more recently and the number has jumped to 77% since I took the screenshot.
While Soy Isoflavones can help bring on an earlier or stronger Ovulation for these women, I must note that in some women it did not help at all. Just like Clomid doesn't always work for everyone. Right now there are a lot more women trying Soy Isoflavones so I will continue to monitor their progress and report back any news I find.
You can buy a bottle of Soy Isoflavones at any health food store or even Wal-mart. At Wal-mart, it costs under $7 USD for one bottle. Pretty affordable, huh?

New Pee Stick Gallery for my POAS Friends!
In January 2006, TwoWeekWAIT.com officially opeend the new and improved pee sticks photo gallery with more pee sticks than ever! The gallery now contains +HPT photos, Evap line photos, OPK photos and even pregnancy charts!
All the pee sticks are organized by brand so you can find what you are looking for quickly! You can even rate photos and leave comments if you feel inclined to do so.
I've got some feedback on the gallery and I hear that it's causing some of the gals who browse the site during the workday to be less productive because they cannot stop perusing the gallery.
Don't forget to send in your BFP photos when you get your long awaited BFP! I promise the photos will be well looked after.

Jan 2006 TTC Success Story
I'm Angela(23). Dh(25) and I were pregnant December 2004 after my first time off BCP in 8 years. We saw the heart beat and it was the best moment ever... Unfortunately I had a m/c of our son Logan 2/11/05. It has been the hardest thing I have ever gone through and still struggle with it everyday. It took 7 weeks after the D&C for AF to show up. It was so heavy and painful! Since then I have taken Provera numerous times because we are finding out I do not get my period on my own. I have taken 3 rounds of clomid (50,100,150mg) which seem to be working because I get positive OPKs and on my fertility monitor but after the long TWW, my period always comes afterwards. Our first Fertility Clinic appointment was scheduled for February 1st. So after almost one year exactly from having a miscarriage, not ovulating, and taking clomid, temping, using Preseed and instead cups.... I got my BFP!!!! I can't even believe I am writing this, it just doesn't seem real yet! There was an unmistakable pink line that showed up in two minutes! Never give up hope! It will happen to you too! |

TTC Tips-n-Tricks Zone
Next cycle if you're looking for something else to out, I suggest the Sperm Meets Egg Plan (SMEP)! It's not difficult to learn, but it takes a lot of  (you've been warned!) You will need (1) OPK test kit with 7 OPK tests and lots of steamy passion to carry you through!!!
How SMEP works:
On cycle day 10 take your first OPK test. on cd10 as well. Make sure to keep your hips elevated with a pillow for at least 15 min afterwards.
Every day, pee on an OPK test at the same time each day, preferably between 10am - 10pm as this is the time your LH surge will be highest once detected.
Keep every other day until your first +OPK. When your OPK is positive, make sure you that day, and then for the next 2 days after your first +OPK. (You don't need to take any more OPK tests after you get your positive.)
And that's it! It requires a lot of but if you're faithful to the plan, your chances for a BFP are higher! It's a tried and true plan, if you don't have any other fertility issues stuck in your way. (And even if you do have ferility issues, you can still try it! Remember it only takes ONE swimmer to do the trick!) Lots of Babydust to you!!!
