I'm not sure if they do this over there, but I know here in Australia most pharmacies/chemists will be able to check your blood pressure on the spot. If not, many doctors' surgeries where there are multiple doctors will also have a registered nurse on staff who can check your blood pressure. So if you're -ever- concerned, there are multiple places you can go to get it checked.
Talia Grace: born Friday 13th of July, 2007, at 27w4d gestation, 700g/1.5lbs. Nursed for 4 years
and Violet Joy: born Thursday 19th, VBAC waterbirth, 39w2d, 3.35kg/7lbs 6oz, still a booby monster, just shared it with her big sister for 18 months.

thank you Pixie. Yes I know you can get your bp taken at Walgreens and I've also seen one at Sams Club.

Also from a mommy who had Pre-E which then turned into an extremely rare from of heart failure please pay attention to your swelling. That was my first sign and I was blown off.

that's right! always check your swelling and make sure you have your bp checked especially if you're not feeling right.

I didn't feel right the whole pregnancy and was already seeing a specialist who didn't bother checking my bp, was more concerned with my complete placenta previa. he even missed my vasa previa which could have lead to Kiran's early demise from bleeding to death.

Anway, again, go with your gut, get your pressure checked, and check for swelling and communicate well with your dr. If you can't, find another one.

Also watch out after pregnancy as well. I was 9 days PP w/ Brayden & got an ache in the back of my neck about 9pm on April 3. It turned into a full blown migraine that yielded no relief. I turned off the lights & laid down in bed & eventually fell asleep. The next day I had some issues w/ my vision, but thought nothin of it. Things were a bit foggy here & there when straining to see the t.v but nothing consistent. The night came, & about 9 that night again the same thing. An ache started in the back of my neck & turned into a full blown migraine. I started puking sometime later which I thought was from the migraine. I was literally banging my head against the wall crying in agony it hurt SO bad! He was my 2nd kid, and I'd gratefully give birth 2 time's over if I coulda just stopped this pain. DH finally convinced me to go to the ER. After our friend came an hour out to watch the kids we took off. By this time I couldn't see to sign my admit papers. The ER dr. Seriously thought I was on drugs & kept prompting me for what I was on. He did a vision test which I couldn't pass & brought me back to a room. He made mention of high BP but thought it was due to the pain I was in. In the room he started me on a 45 min. drip of demerol & also gave me benadryl, & phenergan incase I had an allergic reaction. An hour later I was bein discharged. I couldn't see to get up, so they brought a wheel chair. He told DH it would make me feel drunk. I've been drunk before, & never have not been able to walk, or reached for car door handles in a way off place in a car we've had for years. I don't remember the drive home, or DH & our friend carryin me inside. I do remember wakin up & grabbin for my legs cause they hurt. DH was talkin on the phone to someone about callin an ambulance, & thru clenched teeth I told him I didn't need one. My breathin was quick & shallow, & though I knew somethin wasn't right, I knew I didn't want an ambulance called. Thankfully DH didn't heed my advice cause when I woke up in the ICU 3 days later intubated I figured somethin was terribly wrong. My DH told me when I awoke that I took a $15000 helicopter ride & slept right through it. After I was off the vent, I learned that my legs hurtin was due to seizures I was havin. By the time all was said & done I had 27 seizures quit breathin, and was bagged at my house. They worked on me for 30 min. In the back of the unit until airlife arrived. I was sedated & flown to downtown baptist where I was put into a medically induced coma. My DH was told to call my family & tell them if they wanted to say goodbye, to come now! They couldn't control my seizures and were for certain I was brain dead. The on call Dr. took one look at my chart & said it was eclampsia. He saw the tell tale signs. Migraine, blurred vision, high BP. He called the ER dr. at conally & gave him an ear full. The tube from my throat & nose was removed, and all was well. On april 10th Daniel's b-day I was taken back to conally for respiratory issues because my trach was cut when I was intubated, & a piece was layin sideways. I couldn't breathe, & eventually coughed it up, but the EMT's were sure to tell me about my ordeal, & the fact that they didn't think I was gonna make it either & were suprised to see me up walkin around. So during pregnancy, or after if somethin's not right, GO IN!! Do not hesitate!! Thing's don't end in pregnancy, & it's always best to find it's nothin, than for it to be somethin. Pre-e, & eclampsia are ugly things you DON'T wanna mess with!

yes after pregnancy it's still possible to develop ecclampsia. If you don't feel right, don't hesitate to call your doctor. My pressure didn't go down until after weeks after delivery. It does not automatically return to normal once you deliver. I still had to be monitored in the hospital very careful because my pressure was still very high, and I was on many meds at home and still kept taking my pressure all day long.

then one day all of a sudden I didn't feel right, and my pressure was really low. Then I knew I could stop taking all those meds.

wow thinkinpink I can't believe what you went through! I had many bad headaches because of my pressure being too high, or suddenly dropping too low from the meds.

Keep taking your bp and keep a log to show your dr. This early on bp meds can help control the high bp and hopefully prevent pre e and early delivery.

Thanks for the warning!

120/80 is "ideal" blood pressure. With my first pregnancy my blood pressure was pretty normal throughout. At my first appointment last week for this pregnancy my bp was 130/80. Doctor said it's only slightly elevated, but they'll be keeping an eye on it. I feel it's due to a lot of stress in my life currently...so I'm working to stay calm & relaxed to keep it down.

At least you are aware of it this early on and you know to watch out for it. Also know the signs to look for if your bp does get elevated.

I had nothing like this in my first pregnancy and all my doctors were shocked. I never had high bp my whole life. In fact my bp went down by 3 weeks post partem. It was just pregnancy induced.
