Interesting. I had no idea Martha. Good to know.

I wonder if this country specific though or fairly general practice in US and Canada?

Fortunately the only ones I might have trouble with our kids going to in either side of the family are the one pair that would definitely not want to take them in. Otherwise we have our preferences as to who they would go to, but I would really not have a problem with any one of the families raising them. My only thing is I wouldn't want them split up. Still, I am going to ask hubby a about getting it in writing! I know our families would respect our wishes and nobody would be likely to contest whatever we said.

Hi B Michaelson. You should consult a lawyer. If you want someone to take care of your children on your death you need to name them in your will with an attorney.
