Help!! Could a one-off severe stress episode harm baby?

Postby dreamingofbab » Fri Feb 27, 2015 7:40 am

HI Ladies... Super paranoid... This morning I thought I had thrown my engagement ring away in the bins after thinking I had vacummed it by mistake. I was in a total, stressed-out panic: crying, stomach in knots, heart rate going crazy while I turned over furniture, dug in bins and searched high and low on hands on knees until I THANK GOODNESS found it a couple hours later in between our sheets of all places!

I could not calm myself down for a few hours afterwards and my mother got really angry saying it could affect the baby. Is this true? Of course I know stress isn´t great for these little ones and I did try to remain calm, but I was so upset and anxious about finding this ring I am now worried I might have done some harm. Any advice?

I have a friend who´s husband awfully passed away while she was pregnant and my level of stress was nowhere near as much as hers, so I am hoping all will be fine as her baby is perfect. But after 2 MCs I worry about everything! :(

I have PTSD, so if anxiety/stress could hurt a pregnancy then my four children didn't have a chance. But even better then that , they are happy go lucky children. Fortunately my mood issues didn't effect their personality. My wild aide did though:-)
Due Sept. 7th, 2015 carrying this miracle to term!!!

I had a very rough first trimester with severe morning sickness, a gall bladder attack, and the flu. I ended up needing IV fluids on two separate occasions. My body and mind were under so much stress ( I lost 25 lbs in one month!) and I was worried about it affecting baby. I had multiple doctors and nurses assure me that baby is tucked away safely in a place specifically designed to keep him/her safe from outside things. Almost 20 weeks now, and baby is healthy and kicking!

Thank all you ladies so much! not sure why I didn´t get notifications when you all responded.

BeeCee, thank goodness baby is okay! Sounds like an awful ordeal for you!
OCT, bless you! Thanks for the reply, and Lauren - phew!! It was crazy! Couldn´t believe we found it.

Hope all you ladies have a great week. I can´t wait to start feeling baby kicking so I can relax , wow!
