Question for ladies measuring ahead of due date

Postby babydust530 » Thu Apr 23, 2015 6:41 am

I had my 12-week u/s yesterday (original due date 11/4) and the baby was measuring 2 weeks ahead (due date 10/22). I'm pretty certain of the day I conceived, because I was checking my bbt and know the date I ovulated. My question is, should I treat 11/4 or 10/22 as my due date. For instance, next week I have to go to HR to start my paperwork for maternity leave and I have to give my due date. Also, with silly things like checking updates on baby's progress and so far, should I follow my original due date or the due date based on what baby's measuring?

are they going by LMP? I know my OB doesnt even care about ovulation date nor implantation date.. But it sounds like your baby might be measuring bigger? Im not sure, I think there might be too many variables and perhaps your Dr. might hold the answer for you. I would ask what he/she is using to measure you ahead.. specially by so much.. i've heard 2, 5 days, but 2 whole weeks is alot. Im curious to see.

My 11/4 due date is based on my LMP
But at the u/s yesterday when they measured the actual baby, it was the growth/size of a baby that is 14 weeks along, not 12; which would make my due date based on the u/s 10/22. Does that make sense?

I would say then if they measured baby and LO is measuring at 14 weeks..average of what a 14 week old would, then go by that. I think they will continue monitoring LO through your appointments and at your 20 week anatomy scan they will have a better idea of where baby is measuring.

Thank you for your response. I think you are right, and at the 20-week u/s they'll have a much better idea of how baby is measuring.

Hmm I'm not sure either. If you're certain of the day you ovulated then I would go with that. Maybe baby is just very big haha. Could be a 12 pounder in there!

Tricky... But if your certain of ovulation then I'd go with that day... I'm sure you took pg tests and you know when you started getting faint positives so you know when you became pregnant.. I agree u might have a big baby in there that's all nothing to worry about. My son was 9'6 he always measured ahead. I'd keep the due date of 11/14

Thanks ladies. I had my nt scan on Friday and that tech said I'm measuring 8 days ahead not 2 weeks. I'll prob just keep the 11/4 due date but be prepared for the baby to come earlier.

I was measuring 6 days ahead at my 12 week NT scan, and they kept my original due date (after measuring 1 day behind at 6 weeks, then 4 days ahead at 10 weeks). The tech said that when people measure, they might do it just a bit differently, so it's not unusual to have 2 different people give 2 different dates. That's why she said it usually has to be off by quite a bit before they change your due date. And, my doctor said just because the baby is measuring big doesn't necessarily mean it will come early or be a big baby. I keep worrying because I was 8lb 10oz, and DH was 9lb... lol.

I have my anatomy scan next week, so I'm interested to see if baby has slowed down or is still measuring more and more ahead :)

Thanks amlobo for your response. That actually makes a lot of sense. My husband was almost 9lbs too, but I was a little baby so I hope baby takes after me in size.
Good luck with your anatomy scan! That's so exciting! Keep me posted on what they say.

I think they usually keep the LMP due date unless you are more than 7 days off from that date.

My baby measured 8 days ahead at the dating U/S, and they ended up splitting the difference between the LMP and U/S estimates. My doctors were hesitant (and for this I was glad) to push a due date too much earlier than the LMP because at the end you are more likely to hit post dates thresholds that would force you to be induced etc.. Also, both of my other two measured ahead and were "late".

That's kyoto. I just had a doctor's appt today and he told me he plans on keeping the original due date based on LMP for now. He said in my later scans depending on the difference he may make adjustments at that time.
