Ideas on how to announce to family

Postby jeepgirl88 » Tue May 26, 2015 11:20 am

Hey Ladies!

So I JUST got a BFP last week, it's still SO early and DH and I agreed we don't want to tell many people early on. However, we decided we will probably tell his parents soon, as we think they will find out anyway (my family all lives in another province so no worries there).

My MIL bugs us constantly about having kids, and my FIL works out of town but is coming home on Thursday for a week, so we will be spending a lot of time with them. We always have drinks and a hot tub at their house, so we know they will instantly know what's up if I say I can't and therefore we decided we should surprise them before they figure it out.

So that makes me think that I might tell my parents early on too (prob after we hear the heartbeat) and then we will wait to tell the rest of the family/friends. Since none of my family lives closeby though, I'm trying to figure out the best way to tell them. I thought mailing something would be nice, but DH said then we wouldn't get to see/hear their reactions. Should we surprise them in a phone call somehow, or over Skype? I was thinking I could send my Dad something for Father's Day that says 'The best Dads get promoted to Grandad'...maybe I'll ask him to call us before he opens it?

I think if you really wanted to surprise them but also see their reaction then Skype is the way to go. Mailing something and then asking them to call before opening it might draw some suspicion, especially if they know that kids are likely in the near future and may even be waiting for the announcement. But you know them best so maybe they won't be. Also maybe with it being father's day they might think it was just a REALLY good gift which is why you wanted to call them first lol

Well I was going to do something fun and cutesy. But we told our DD, and apparently you can't trust a 6yr old to keep a secret! Lol she has told everyone. At least it's cute when she randomly says "did you know my mom has a baby in her tummy?"

We had some postcards printed up with a photo of our angel and our rainbow and wrote a little message on the back.

We took the photo ourselves.

Nothin super ostentatious or overly cutesy, but with the things that are important to us and our son.

(Sorry, forgot the picture)

Generally my DH parents and we drink coffee together in the morning. After confirming pregnancy with doctor next day morning I took one small cup extra and poured coffee. Kept the coffee tray in front of them with 5 cups :D .
