Is this common with doctors?

Postby Rwebb12 » Thu Jun 25, 2015 8:11 pm

I was just wondering if it is common with most doctors to nor see you until you are at least 8 wks PG? With my first they saw me right away and I was only 3 wks. I'm just wondering. At least check my hcg levels or something. Sitting here wondering if everything is okay is causing me anexity.

I think that is pretty common if you're not high risk or if they have no reason to worry or monitor you. There is not much they can do in early pregnancy anyway besides just wait. My doctor didn't even want to do a blood test for confirmation, she said that if I am getting positive hpts then I am pregnant.

It's completely dependent on the doctor, I think. I called the day I got my first BFP and they scheduled me for an appointment at 8 weeks. I ended up going in early for some spotting, and they did a blood test then to check things out and make sure my hcg levels were on target for a continuing pregnancy, but the spotting was the only reason they even considered it.

I'm sure if you are really worried, you can probably ask for one. My GP also said that I could call them for an initial visit for a double-check on a pregnancy test or help with nausea before my midwife would see me at 8 weeks.

Thank you ladies. I just thought it was strange they saw me asap with my DD and they are waiting with the second. I'm just a nervous wreck over every little thing. I figure they at least would just check hcg to make sure they are with in the normal ranges for pregnancy.

I've never had my hcg tested besides a urine test at the office on my first apt. I just had it tested when I was going through a mc and to make sure levels went back to zero. I'm young and healthy though, so I believe that's normal. A lot of older moms or ladies with history get more early apts. Or sometimes depends on the dr.

Yep it's common. I got my bfp, rang my OB and they scheduled me 8 weeks from my lmp. No blood work needed at all! They only do that if you are higher risk, have a history of mc, or have been taking fertility drugs usually. Now I just go back every month for a quick check up, no ultrasound just a fetal Doppler and pelvic exam. My next ultrasound is at 20 weeks for the anatomy scan. It really depends on your doctors MO but mine is super laid back with his patients unless there are any issues as I mentioned above. so don't worry if you don't get all the extras :)
