Is it true that higher HCG levels take longer to double??

Postby skye skye » Fri Jul 17, 2015 10:14 am

I had my 1st beta done wednesday and my second today. Just got my results back:

1st beta: 6,720
2nd beta: 10,521

My doctor says that it is close enough to a 50% increase that it's okay...but I'm freaking out it didn't double? I researched a little and found some information that higher levels of HCG (typically levels over 6,000) can take up to 96 hours to double - not the 48 most go by. My doubling time is 74 hours...

I know my numbers did go up, but I'm scared that they didn't double. I have a scan next wednesday...that is sooo long to wait! 8O  What do you ladies think???

At the very beginning HCG takes about 48 hours to double, but as you progress it can take longer - up to 3 1/2 days to fully double by the time you're 6 to 7 weeks in :) If your doctor isn't concerned, I don't think you have reason to be either.

This may also help :)

Morse and coworkers (2012) at University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine recommend that the beta hCG level for a successful intrauterine pregnancy should be expected to increase by at least 35% in two days.

Thanks Frosted!! This is my 3rd pregnancy in the past year - the last 2 were mc's, so I'm kind of paranoid. I didn't get betas done the first two times, so I have nothing to base my numbers off of besides the whole "doubling" rule. I think my number went up by 56% - if I did the math right. I'm only a little over 5wks right now - so I guess it's just a good thing my number is high?

Thanks for the info :D
