confused/paranoid...help please!

Postby jlynne2013 » Tue Sep 22, 2015 5:52 am

Hey ladies-

I will try to make this as short as possible.. backstory: when I was pregnant with my daughter I was put on at home bed rest around 26 weeks I believe..I was on some medication to stop the contractions..I had her at 37 weeks right after they took me off the meds. Since then I had 2 miscarriages and am currently almost 25 weeks pregnant with a little boy. I've been having pains off and on..I went to see the DR last week and he did an ultrasound. He said I wasn't funneling and haven't dilated any..he said my cervix didn't look "ideal" which I believe he mentioned would be at 5cm..he said I measured in at 4..but from what I googled it seems like 4 cm at 24 weeks is good? He said if the pains continued to come back this week and we'll check again..otherwise my next apt isn't until 3+ weeks. I have had contraction like feelings off and on but nothing too awful except this morning. It has been pretty consistent since I woke up but I don't want to keep going to the DR constantly..I may be over paranoid after all I have been through but my question is..how am I supposed to gauge when its harmless pains and when its something to be concerned about?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated :)

I have almost nothing for you, except I would go to the doctor. I would rather be the crazy lady in there bothering people. At least call the nurse and see what they think.

This article sums things up pretty well if you havent read it: http://www.pregnantchicken.com/pregnant ... n-ass.html

I've read articles written by nurses who have said that when dealing with pregnant patients, they would so much rather be "bothered" by patients with nothing wrong than have to deliver devastating news.

That said, I'm also very concerned about preterm labor so I spoke with my midwife at my last appointment. She said to definitely, absolutely, with out question give them a call if:
- I'm feeling pains that are regular, i.e. can be timed and are coming in predictable intervals
- I see any bloody discharge, pink or brown
- I feel lower back pain that doesn't go away with changing position, rest, or acetaminophen
- I feel pelvic pressure that doesn't go away with changing position or rest

A 4cm cervix may be perfectly fine, just not as "perfect" as a 5cm, especially for someone who has a history of preterm labor. Either way, it doesn't sound to me like you have too much to worry about, but again I agree with Sarah above that if you're concerned to call the doctor. At the very least they can give you peace of mind :)

I'm sorry to hear that, jlynne! Sending positive thoughts your way that things are going to be all right. Good luck at the specialist.
