How would you pronounce Lana?

Postby gardangels » Wed Feb 24, 2010 10:27 am

Would your first reaction be Lana like Banana or Lana that Rhymes with Wanna?

I already have a Brianna with pronunciation problems, and now we are stuck in love with Lana and apparently there are problems there too.

Should i just say forget the problem and let people say what they want? Let the kid correct them? I'd have two girls with that problem. Isn't it silly to make the same mistake twice?

Our other option is Kendra, but I'd have a hard time convincing DH of that over Lana. he loves it.

Last name is Quinlan.

Lana Quinlan

Kendra Quinlan

I don't know...

LAY-na? Oh gosh, another pronunciation to worry about.

Do you guys think I should just accept it will be mis-pronounced or should I pick Kendra just to avoid the issue?

I'd go with Kendra- I just think Lana is pretty similar to Brianna. I'd go with something different.

They're both fine names though :)

I would say it LAH-na, but I usually pronounce all words like that with the Japanese vowel system lol. A's are Ah's. My husband tends to say stuff like that the opposite way. Like the word Mana in video games I pronounce MAH-nah, he says MAN-ah. If you love the name use it, worst thing you have to do is correct someone *shrug*

Richale- how do you say your name? I would say it Ree-shale?

Anyway I see you just got a BFP. PRaying hard for a sticky bean for you.

Someone suggested to me to spell it Launa. Isn't that a great idea? I'm going to pitch it to DH tonight. I really like that idea. hope he goes for it. I might force it on him.

Launa Quinlan...Launa Beth Quinlan...I like it. It looks like Laura with an n.

Launa Quinlan....Lana Quinlan...Launa Quinlan.

I pronounce it like Laaa-nuh:D I think that Launa is a great way to spell it without having pronounciation difficulities. Great idea! Both spellings look cute with your last name too. :)

i wasn't able to talk to DH last night about the spelling because he was mad at me about something else. I'll wait til this weekend when he's in a good mood.

Thanks for your comments. Most people voted for the pronunciation I prefer (lana wanna) but most of you posted that you would pronounce it Lay-na or LAN-a.

I have decided I will just make the effort to correct people more. I've been shy about that with DD, but I will try to be more clear with people and hopefully they get it.

Really hoping to get the Launa spelling OK from DH too.
