How would you spell it?

Postby coastieschick » Tue Apr 13, 2010 1:48 pm

Ok so we are having a boy, yay!

DH wants to name after his grandfather so the baby's name WILL be
James Reason, and of all the nicknames we can make from that we have decided to call him Reece/Reese.

Problem is there are 2 ways to spell it and I can't decide, lol

what do ya'll think????????

OK so DH liked Reese better but after looking it up I confirmed that Reece seems to be the more boyish way to spell it. Reece comes up as JUST a boy name where Reese is either and is actually ranked higher as a girls name than as a boys name!?!?!

I mean this will just be a nickname but will be what he is called most often at home and so its not the end of the world, buuuuut I'd still like to get it right.

Opinions please?????

does anyone have this name/know someone with this name?

I agree with your research. The only Reese I know is a girl and I thought that Reese was the feminine way to spell it and Reece was the masculine way.

Yeah that's what I thought too but eveyone here was saying Reese, but when I asked DH about it again he said he doesn't really care how you spell it he just thought it was SE. So it looks like Reece it will be, who knew nicknames could be so frustrating...

I'd spell it Reece. When I see "Reese" I think Reese Witherspoon = girl. But something about just changing that s to a c makes it seems so much more masculine to me & I think it's a great name for a boy! :)

THanks, that's what we're gonna go with. It will be a form of his middle name and our nickname for him so its not a huge deal but I am making his wall letters tonight (we figured that's what we'd put on the wall since that's what we'll call him) so I needed to decide how to spell it and REECE it is, thanks ladies. Its so nice to have a sounding board for ideas other than DH lol

I honestly didn't think of the boy/girl difference...I just know that when I saw Reece I thought of the candy  which made me think of endless taunting.

I'm sure there will be some jokes, but its a nickname so I doubt it will be to bad since his name will actually be James. Plus the candy is atually spelled Reeses buuuuut yeah since our last name starts with an S if he uses his nickname for anything I am sure he'll get some jokes made...
...but its not to bad, my first name turns into a really easy joke and its annoying but since it wasn't anything mean it never hurt my feelings.

i know this is an old thread but people still read for ideas...so i wanted to throw in the spelling Rhys which is common here for a boy. :D
