Sister Name for Teagan

Postby mickel05 » Thu Nov 18, 2010 3:04 am

Our 18 mo DD is becoming a big sister in April! The boy name is pretty set but not so much if we have a girl. We'd love a name that goes well together and isn't too popular. My DH is from Ireland so we also like Irish and Scottish names. Cast your vote! Thanks, M

Although I like the name Maeve more, I voted for Harper because I think it goes better with Teagan.

Maeve or Isla......Harper is becoming fairly popular, at least where I am. I know a lot of females named Harper.

Thanks so much ladies for the replies! Keep them coming as I continue to be torn on the name.

Cally, I did a double take when I read your son's name is Fionn!! This is hands down THE only name my DH wants for a son and he is sure this baby is a boy, not a girl. Does yours have a middle name? I am more than a little nervous that my family and I will never be able to prounounce it right.

Am I am setting myself up for a lifetime of Irish correcting me? I've honestly had nightmares! I think, "How hard can it be? It's just the vowel tripping me up." But according to those I have shared it I am either rushing the "yun" or making too much of that crazy "o"....I can navigate a foreign country by myself and speak Japanese and French - but I can't say this darn name right. What is wrong with the name Ciaran, I ask you???

Do you know many Fionn's in Ireland? Looks like it may be on the rise from statistics I've read. It's a great name, to be sure!

Mickel- Thats great I absolutely love it as well, it was the only name on our list for ds :D I can see why it would be tricky for you to pronounce when we go abroad nobody can say it. When ds started school a lot of the kids who werent familiar with the name couldnt pronounce it either and would call him Fee-O-n but they all got it eventually so just keep repeating it out loud :)
If you really cant get it you could pronounce it Finn (northern irish) but I prefer Fyun.
It is fairly popular here but not over popular, ds's middle name is Peter :)

eta-What part of Ireland is your dh from?

Cally,
Thanks so much for the reply. Good to know that the kids in his school got it after hearing it more. It has become kind of a family joke that we butcher it on my side but I honestly do love it and think it will become easier as we say it more. My DH prefers Fyun as the pn too.

He's from Galway although most of his family have relocated to Cork so we spend a lot of time there when we go home. How about you? Just got some pics this morning from my BIL - looks like you guys are getting some crazy snow there!

Im from Waterford but lived in Cork for 11 years, moved back to Waterford 2 yrs ago. Its a small world :D

We are getting crazy weather over here, the kids have been off school with 3 days because the roads are desperate icy. Temperatures falling to
-10C very strange for here, we never get snow until end of January if at all. Im loving it though :D
