Irish Girl Names!

Postby kerryhawk02 » Sun May 04, 2008 12:16 pm

We are very Irish and want an Irish first name to go with our Irish last name. My maiden name was even Irish!

I like Morgan.... but I don't want her nickname ot be "morgue".... ew!
I like Riley too, but I'm afraid it might be too common.

Elizabeth is my middle name, so I want to pass on a peice of me.

What do you ladies think? Thanks so much for your help!

I love Morgan. Our dog's name is Riley, so I can't endorse it for a human, lol. Although our other dog's name is Chloe and I'm seriously regretting that decision right now as I would love to name our future daughter Chloe.

I think Morgan Elizabeth would be very pretty! I wouldn't worry too much about the nickname. My name is Crystal and nobody has ever really tried to shorten it.

I'm naming my little girl Chloe (if this baby is a girly...which i'm almost 75% sure of). Her full name will be Chloe Autumn Lopez. Haha wonder if she'll be nicknamed "CALL"... Like, my initials spell out SCM, so my friends all decided on calling me "scum". Tss!

I really like both of those! And I have always loved Elizabeth for a middle name...Dh won't let us use it b/c his boss's daughter is named that. If you are worried about a name being too common I know there is a website that has the rank in popularity of any name you can imagine. I do know someone who just named their daughter Riley, but other than that have not heard either used too frequently lately!

Good luck deciding!

Hey Kerry! I vote for Morgan. I think it's a strong Irish name. I know a girl named Morgan. She's about 21 though. :D

kerry, i voted for morgan too. it's my elder goddaughter's middle name, and i frequently call her 'miss morgan', which she loves. she's been considering going by morgan exclusively when she's older, but that might just be a phase because she's intrigued by the fact that most of the women in my family use their middle names and not their first. also, inasmuch as i'm familiar with the two names, morgan and it's variants have a richer history in celtic mythology, if that kind of thing is important to you. of course, i'm a mythology geek and might lean towards the original 'morrigan', but that might be too unusual or carry too many specific connotations for you.

riley is perfectly cute and fine, but personally, it makes me think of the old english car or the male character on 'buffy the vampire slayer' first.

like a previous poster, i also love the history-rich irish name 'maeve' (not that you asked).

I like Morgan. I never met a Morgan I didn't like. :)

I also like Mairead if you are considering Irish. The first time I saw it I was a little confused as to how to pronounce it...rhymes with parade. :) A friend of mine named her little (red headed) Irish baby Mairead and it is SO cute.

It' s a strong name, yet still feminine and she's a kick butt goddess!
For a nic, we call her Miss Morgan or Moe, or in play Mo-go.

I voted Morgan...and actually, I have a good friend named Morgan Elizabeth. I've always loved her name! We've been friends since middle school, and she never had any weird nicknames (except for ones that were *completely* different than her name, given to her by us :P ) based off her name.
