Call from Doc, Beta/progesterone levels

Postby kgibsoncarr » Fri Mar 18, 2011 10:28 am

Just got a call from the doctor's office - at what I calculate to be 17dpo I had a beta of 197 and progesterone of 8.5. That was blood taken on Wednesday - they had me come in today (Friday) and draw more. Won't know anything until Monday.

I had gone in because of a suspected (and now, confirmed) kidney infection, also talked about the possibility of a tubal because of intermittent pain. Supposed to have an ultrasound next Wednesday to confirm viability.

I got my BFP at 12 dpo, I think i'm only 4 1/2 weeks. How do these numbers sound to you wise ladies? Cause I'm freaking out here. :(

The beta sounds good to me. it's all a matter of if it rises. I get my second beta on Sunday, and that will tell me if I'm okay or not. The waiting is the hardest part.

The progesterone is kinda low. did they say anything about that? My dr prescribed me progesterone with my last pregnancy b/c it was 9. It has nothing to do with the viability of the bean- it just means your own body isn't producing a great amount of progesterone- and you need lots of it so that your uterus can hang on to the bean. I'd ask about that.

They did mention that both numbers were low - they said they wanted to see the progesterone at 12.

Just hoping for the best. I've made comments this week that I don't feel particularly pregnant anymore - not nauseous, boobs don't hurt almost at all anymore, not falling down tired - all things that I was last week when I got my BFP. So, we're just taking it easy and hoping the numbers come back and that this is a fluke.

UPDATE!

My betas went from 197 at 17dpo to 409 at 19dpo! PHEW!

Progesterone is still a little low at 10.7 (from 8.5) but the doc said it's still really early. Wants me to repeat tests this Wednesday before my u/s. So....looking good. Feeling much better. Will have new test results by end of week.

Now, if this kidney infection would start to feel better I'd do a little jig...

Not to worry you because I am not a doctor but that progesterone still seems low, I wonder why they do not just call you in a prescription because progesterone cannot hurt a pregnancy and my doctor always told me they want to see it at 15 or more (and this was early betas, I always had mine done as soon as I got a BFP because I bleed when pregnant) You may want to call them and push the issue.

I agree, there's no reason not to just give you the progesterone prescription.. I'd ask about that. It doesn't hurt anything, but God forbid it drop slightly below that.

Had more bloodwork done at 24 dpo, plus an u/s. Got to see the sac and fetal pole, too early for anything else (5w3d by calendar calculations, computer said it was out of range). My beta looks good - doubling at around 36 hours or so. Progesterone is not, went down this go-round. I asked the nurse for a progesterone supplement, waiting to hear back from doctor.

17dpo: Beta 197, Prog. 8.5
19dpo: Beta 409, Prog. 10.7
24 dpo: Beta 3377, Prog. 9.5

The nurse said they may want to do another draw, since progesterone is a hormone and can go up and down, but I insisted that she ask the doctor to review the bloodwork & u/s. If it's that low, I agree, supplementation can't hurt.

I hate waiting. Patience is not one of my virtues.

***UPDATE***

Doc called back to ok prometrium, take until she says stop. Repeat u/s in two weeks, first full appt in 3 weeks.
