Morning Sickness Already?!

Postby VanHeerden » Sun Apr 05, 2015 7:17 pm

Seriously?! I'm 4wks exactly by LMP and I just lost Easter dinner. It was delicious and now wasted. I can't believe it could possibly start this early....

I had mild nausea starting around when I think fertilization occurred. I didn't think it was possible to have symptoms that early but I was definitely nauseous and had sensitivity to smells. It became more severe around 14 DPO. I haven't thrown up yet though, but yesterday I was very close when I smelled Easter dinner. I take these tablets called Ginger Trips when it gets bad enough that I can't function or eat and they really help. Gingerale also helps a little.

I was vomitting like crazy and that is how I discovered that I must be pregnant. I never had morning sickness with my first pregnancy so this is all new to me. It was only one really bad night, but it was so early! I am not sure how many dpo I am because I must have ovulated early. I am guessing aywehre from 14-17 dpo.

With my daughter I had hyperemesis gravidarum that started at 5-6wks.... lost 20-25 lbs and couldn't keep anything down till around 6-7months. With my son I was blessed with a nausea/vomit free pregnancy... I really hope this will be a mix of the two instead of a deja vu of my first.

That sucks. I've heard b6/unisom combo helps. Also upping your magnesium levels might help. Hope you feel better!

VanHeerden, you have just given me so much hope! I am 25 weeks with my first and I have suffered from HG this pregnancy. It put me in the hospital several times and I just stopped throwing up regularly about a month ago, but still feel nauseous much of the time, even on two anti-nausea meds.

I have never heard of anyone getting it for just one pregnancy, but if that's possible, I guess I might be willing to try having another one at some point!

I'm sorry you're feeling gross already... I've been on Diclegis, which is unisom/b6 in a time release pill. I also use zofran on top of that. The over the counter unisom and b6 did nothing for me, but Diclegis has been amazing. If I even reduce my dose by 1 pill a day, I end up in the hospital, so it's definitely helping me!

I, too, have heard magnesium might be related to morning sickness, but that we are less able to absorb it during pregnancy. I was going to try magnesium oil rubbed into the skin, but never got around to trying it. It might help, though.

I hope you get through the next few months ok. I also lost about 25 lbs between 6 and 12 weeks. It was so miserable! Hang in there. I'm curious to see if this is another girl for you... I thought for sure mine would be a girl, but nope, it's a little boy making me so sick!

BeeCee: I was hospitalized during my pregnancy with my daughter also [about 4 times]... not leaving until I had received a minimum of two IV bags of fluid and some anti-nausea meds [none of which worked for me - so congrats on finding something that's working for you!]. My mom teased that it was the best form of birth control [I was 22 when I was pregnant with her]. It was the worst thing I have ever experienced; but looking back I wouldn't change a thing. She is amazing [although this pre-pubesint attitude I could do without LOL] - we weren't exactly trying to for my son he was very much a surprise and I was really thankful when I would only get mildly nauseous if I was "late" for lunch. So there is hope :)

I also have a theory about HG - but I need to verify my research before I mention it [don't want to mess up]. Are you by chance RH- ?

I actually don't know my blood type. I have an OB appointment today, so I'll ask if it's mentioned in my blood work.

I'd love to hear your theory, even if it's not complete. I'm a compulsive googler and I'm pretty good at researching stuff and weeding out verifiable fact from speculation. In other words, don't worry if there are flaws in it, I'll put your ideas in my toolbox for when I research such things myself. Knowledge is power, and I will need as much of it as possible when we decide to have another baby!

My theory is: HG has to do with incompatible blood types. I am O[-] , my daughter is A[?] , my son is O[?]. I need to verify whether they are -/+ but seeming as my son and I have the same blood type my pregnancy was easier with him.

Just the start of my theory.. I would have to do much more research on it and see what this pregnancy brings as a comparison also...

Interesting... I asked the doc today- I'm O negative. I'm curious to see what hubby is and what baby could be.

Oh, also, is RH- a blood type, or a factor you have in addition to your blood type?

The RH factor is just the third antigen in your blood type [aside from A and B - both of which are absent in O blood types]

There's a ton of information available online regarding the blood types and what possible combinations can occur between parents of different types. Here's a link to one I found. http://www.redcrossblood.org/learn-abou ... lood-types

This is so interesting. I'm not there yet (and hope to avoid that symptom) but I really love hearing theories on the causes of these kinds of things.

Hope those suffering from ms or hg find a remedy that works for them. I don't know how you could even function being so sick all day long...

Update: asked MIL if she knew DH's blood type. She didn't but said she and my FIL are both A positive. While there's a chance he could have a recessive combo of genes, it's most likely he is also A positive.

I read a study about positive vs. negative blood types resulting in an attack from the mother's immune system if the baby's blood mixes with hers. Basically the higher evidence they found of fetal DNA in the mother's blood, the more severe the HG. It was all complicated scientific jargon, so I had a hard time understanding exactly what they found, but I definitely think you're onto something with the blood type thing!
