I'm so sorry to hear that! Definitely very scary and upsetting.

A recent study showed that traditional screening methods have a much higher rate of false-positives than actual incidence. Out of nearly 16,000 pregnancies, 10 had trisomy 13, 10 had trisomy 18, and around 80 more women were told they were high risk from traditional screening. In the same study, the Harmony was SO much more accurate, with only 1 false positive for each trisomy.

I hope you're able to relax. The likelihood this is a false positive, so to speak, is even higher than the actual rate of either trisomy. Regardless, I will be sending positive thoughts and prayers your way for a good result from the Harmony test.

I'm sure it depends on where you live but at least in the US it is certainly not "compulsory," just strongly recommended to anyone who is interested in finding out whether their pregnancy is high risk for a chromosomal problem.
