Low HCG/Progesterone

Postby stephttc2 » Fri Jun 26, 2015 8:42 am

I was wondering if someone could help me or if anyone has been in the same situation as me.

My dr is very concerned about my pregnancy so far. A little history... I have been trying for a little over two years and have had two early miscarriages and is on the verge of our third. My last miscarriage was almost a year ago. We have been seeing the fertility specialist for only a few cycles.

My hcg levels are extremely low along with progesterone. Everywhere I read is telling me that my progesterone level is absolutely not possible for a viable pregnancy. I am grasping at straws and looking for hope.

Here are my HCG levels: 14.5; 30; 50.1; 298

Very low. I have not had my progesterone taken since the day of my 50.1 blood draw, which is was only at 1. something. THAT is alarming and very scary. After that, they didn't bother taking my progesterone, my guess is they thought the numbers would go down. After I got the results of 298 yesterday, they put me on progesterone supplements. There is a low chance that this pregnancy is viable, but can anyone please give me a similar story?? Good or bad, I need to hear it.

What dpo were your betas taken?? If they were done every two days, they are doubling. When is your next one? Fx all is well

My betas are fine (even though they are low), but they are worried about my progesterone.

It was at 1. something. ... I don't even know what the other number was because all my mind heard was the one. Everywhere I read says anywhere 5 or below will not sustain a pregnancy.

I am on progesterone supplements, he said if I'm going to lose the baby, it will happen anyways.

I also asked him to just be straightforward and quit saying it could be viable or nonviable (duh!) , and he said he thinks nonviable, but that is clinically speaking. So also meaning that anything can happen.

So right now I am praying for a miracle, but prepared for the worst. If I'm going to MC, I just hope that it will be soon. Obviously, I'd love a miracle. I just wish there was a way to know. I have another set of betas on Monday, so the level should be 1200 or up. He said even if it's 900, that's still good.

I really am just hoping to hear stories of people in similar situations, good or bad. This will be our third loss and we've been trying for over two years. It truly is heartbreaking. I've been on ttc boards and blogs for so long, that I'm so happy to be here, but am afraid it's going to be short lived. I just want to be happy about my pregnancy!!

Thank you so much for replying. :D

I've had 6 losses, including two second trip losses. It is hard, nothing compares to that feeling. I'm sorry I haven't had that issue, but hoping for the best for you.

Re: Progesterone supplements, my progesterone levels were on the low side and I was offered supplements after a small scare with spotting. The nurse who prescribed specifically told me that there is no clinical evidence that it can stop a miscarriage that is already in progress but that if my levels were "just low" it may help.

So, not to give you false hope, but I do think that with early testing it is possible you may have caught the "problem" early on. Either way, sending thoughts and prayers your way. I do hope that regardless of what happens, the finding of low progesterone helps you greatly in your journey for a child.

I just want to update this in case a lovely soul comes along in search of answers one day and are in a situation similar to mine. I know that during this awful waiting time, I have been searching like a mad woman every time I get my results in.

My last HCG went from 298, to 543 in four days. It should have been 1200.

My progesterone finally went up to 7.52, but that is still extremely low and that is after daily progesterone supplements.

I go in on Thursday for an ultrasound to see if the baby is in my uterus or ectopic. I'm praying for a baby in my uterus, so I can MC naturally and move on.

I always had a gut feeling that this pregnancy was not viable. This has officially become a reality.
