Is this the new normal?

Postby BriannaMarie » Mon Jul 27, 2015 7:26 pm

I got my BFP this morning after suspecting for a few days. I am not sure of O date and my LMP was 6/26. I assumed I should call and get bloodwork done and schedule for an u/s and an appt with the OB. When I phoned them this afternoon I was told the normal since 2012 has been to schedule the first appt and u/s together at 10-12weeks. 8O

I did request bloodwork and had to speak to three people to get it because I had very low progesterone with my previous two pregnancies to get that scheduled. Because my youngest is 3.5yrs old now I figured I'd ask all of you if this seems to be the new normal or if my OB must be overbooked and perhaps I should find someone else?

Several other women have posted here asking if that is the norm these days; I assume yes, if there's that much question about it.

I'm in my first pregnancy and I had bloodwork done when I began spotting around 6 weeks, but until that point the plan was to wait until my first ultrasound at 8 (technically 7 because I O'd a week late). I don't know if it's common to postpone the first visit for 2nd+ pregnancies now; my first was just bloodwork and family history, the latter of which I'd assume is on record for anyone who has already seen the OB for prior pregnancies.

You certainly have every right to request bloodwork, so I'm glad you were able to do that! Hope everything comes back well :)

Yes I'd say this is fairly normal these days unless you are high risk or have any issues prior. It sucks though especially when you want to know what's going on!

No I got a confirmation appointment at 5w5d with my nurse practitioner/midwife. She's awesome. First real appointment isn't until around 9 weeks though. Apparently it's helpful since so many people need to be seen before 9 weeks for sickness to already have all the paperwork done and pee test in. She's already seen me again and sent me to the hospital for dehydration. I had an ob with my daughter. Way less personable. I'm sure they all differ though.
