How soon did you get morning sickness?

Postby ozzysgirl » Wed Sep 02, 2015 6:32 am

I've always had pretty bad morning sickness early on (like almost as soon as i find out I'm pregnant). But, I've never found out this early before. Yesterday was 12dpo/ 3w5d and went out to dinner with friends... food was amazing but started to feel nauseous soon after finishing my meal. We went to walmart after... and i told them i was going to be sick... had to run to bathroom to vomit :( is it really starting already? I mean, don't get me wrong it definitely gave me a peace of mind since my first beta was so low... but geesh! i hope it means i have a sticky baby!

I had it almost right away, like 5 weeks until 9 weeks! I got lucky and it completely turned off after I hit 9 weeks!

I was nauseous before I even had a positive HPT, haha. I took a test at 8dpo and it was blank; I figured that was just that, and the nausea was from something else. But it kept coming lightly, and finally around 14dpo I woke up extraordinarily nauseous and decided to take another test which was very clearly positive.

From then on it came and went on and off until the end of the first trimester, but mine was pretty manageable. If you're vomiting already, I'd keep a close eye on it and make sure you're staying hydrated no matter what - the last thing you want is dehydration, and you should definitely contact your OB if you have any concerns about anything like hyperemesis.

Thanks ladies! Only the one vomitting episode so far, but i have definitely lost my appetite, fell full quicker, and nauseous after eating. Today i am exhausted and feel like poo. I'm taking this as a good sign!

I've always ended up getting morning sickness very early on, it's actually one of my indicators to test. So like Frosted Fuji I've almost always ended up with the morning sickness before I get a +HPT. It usually kicks in at about 3-4 weeks or so and just steadily gets worse. I'm sitting at 13+2 right now and I STILL have pretty bad morning sickness. If not for the meds my doctor has given me for the nausea/vomiting I'd probably be held up at home all day laying over the toilet. 8O Maybe mine is just an abnormal case of morning sickness though, I'm pretty much borderline hyperemesis.

I think it varies and no 2 pregnancies are the same. This is my third (just got my BFP yesterday) my first (daughter) I was sick around 7 weeks through my entire pregnancy, all day 'morning' sickness and threw up almost everyday! with my 2nd (son) I was nauseous around 5 weeks until I was out of the first trimester but I never puked. now this one I just found out yesterday and have already been nauseous for a couple days and still am now, nothing I can't handle but it definitely started alot earlier with this one. I'm not even 4 weeks until this sunday!

I haven't had any signs of morning sickness yet, so am not sure what to expect. Can someone just clarify what morning sickness feels like? Is it like being out in a bar and having too much to drink and your wanting to puke everything out? Or is the effect more subtle, like just feeling dizzy and nauseous like if you were to get on a roller coaster right after a big meal?

Agonize - For me morning sickness has felt like a mixture of a hangover and being sea sick/motion sick. You get the nasty feeling like your hungover (just all over nauseousness) - but it's mixed with the feeling of being nauseous due to being sea sick/motion sick (a different kind of nauseousness). With mine, I actually feel like "the room is spinning" at times, it's kind of like my body is spinning in circles making me sick but my body isn't moving at all. Does that make sense? Other times my morning sickness can be aggrevated by something - smells have been a been trigger for me. Certain smells will make you run to puke - so expect that, you'll learn pretty early on what triggers you. I also found that exerting a lot of energy made me sick - I've had to quit exercising due to puking EVERY time I would attempt it. I've also noticed that it comes in waves, I might have a couple "okay" days - then have some pretty bad days where I'm puking every 5 minutes. And DO NOT believe the term "morning" sickness - for me it's been ALL day. Really everyone is different, so what symptoms I've had may be different from others - but this is how I've experienced it.

So, how long does each session last? Like if it's one of your bad days, would you be puking and feeling sick for hours or is the time frame shorter, like it's over in minutes?

Not to scare you...but my "bad days" can last for days at a time with little to no relief. There's been times (quite often actually) where I've actually been woken up from sleep because I had to puke. On bad days I puke on average from 10-40 times in one day. "Good days I might puke anywhere from a couple up to 15-20 times a day. I've honestly felt pretty crappy from day one and it's not really gone away - I'm now 15 weeks and STILL feeling pretty bad. In the beginning it was the nauseousness and extreme fatigue - the fatigue has gotten a little better, but now I'm battling massive headaches that last days. I realize though that not everyone has it as rough as I have - there are many women who only feel slight nausea or don't have it at all. Hoping you're one of those women!! I wouldn't wish this on anyone.lol

Oh WOW, that's intense! So, when did you start getting this morning sickness? I'm just curious when this will hit. I have no symptoms now. Other than sore boobs and fatigue.

Also, do you know if you are getting a boy or girl yet?

I always get morning sickness VERY early on - like 3-4 weeks. That is my clue "hey you're pregnant" -and the reason I actually end up testing. Yeah it is insane! But don't freak out, I think I'm just one of the extreme cases. My doctor told me that only about 2% of pregnant women get sick as bad as I have been. Thankfully they were able to prescribe me some meds to help with the nausea, they help take the edge off - but it's not a permanent fix. But I thank the lord every day for these meds, if I didn't have them I'd be SOO much worse off.

Try not to gauge the morning sickness in terms of gender (in case you were wondering about that)...by default I thought I was having a girl due to how sick I've been. Just confirmed it's a boy a few days ago. 8O In fact ALL the wives tales about gender, and even the Chinese & Mayan birth charts were all WRONG for me. Everything for me pointed to a little girl - SOO wrong! I wouldn't listen to any of them...lol.

Agonize - I am having a girl and never got sick once. I had MAYBE some slight queasiness around weeks 5-6 if I didn't eat for too long, but other than that, I had no symptoms. My boobs never even got sore until 8-9 weeks and even then it was bearable. If she wasn't kicking around all the time in there (and I didn't have the belly and missed periods of course) I never would have suspected I was pregnant. With the little boy I lost, I never got sick either. Every woman is different, and every woman's body handles pregnancy differently.
