Brown Discharge at 5 weeks?

Postby newtottcing » Tue Sep 08, 2015 10:25 am

Did anyone else have brown discharge around 5 weeks? I woke up to it this morning and I am freaking out. It's light brown, not super dark. I've read all over online that it's normal as long as it doesn't accompany heavy cramping but I'm still freaking out, I don't go to the doctor to get it confirmed for a few days :(

Take a deep breath :) It is not uncommon. I had some around 6 weeks, and all was fine. Brown discharge especially means it's older blood - leftover implantation bleeding, a possible hematoma at the implantation site, etc.

If it continues and you're still worried, don't be afraid to call your doctor. Even if you have an appointment in a few days, they can squeeze you in early to check your beta hcg levels and see if there's any indication of concern. Keep in mind that this early it is very very difficult to see anything on an ultrasound; they generally won't do one until at least 7 or 8 weeks.

Hang in there - brown discharge on its own really does not mean much of anything. I hope you have a great appointment :)

I am 5W4day now - brown spotting since I went onto 5W - just saw an obgyn - perfectly normal and don't worry. only if bad AF cramps are there.
Me 45 DH 46
One ovary after HSG - told IUI or IVF.
Went gluten free - no rice, potatoes or bread for two months.
BFP - due May 3 might be early

How did the obgyn confirm that it's normal? Did you have to get a vaginal ultrasound?

I have sch - which is a tiny blood clot when the placenta attached to the wall causes blood - super common and on best rest. Most bleeding in early pregnancy is cause by sch and will resolve by itself. I had a few clots, brown blood and now day two nothing.
Ultrasound confirmed it.
