Ladies, I am curious about what everyone is planning to do this flu season regarding seasonal flu shots and H1N1 shots.

I will be getting the seasonal flu shot next week, and I am undecided on the H1N1 shot. I am a full time college student, and it ALL over campus, plus I work a hospital so I feel that I am really at chance for it, I am just scared of it I think.

I work at a university, and I am already surrounded by sick people (who often refuse to stay home when they are sick  ). I consider myself high risk, because of how many people I come into contact with. I got the seasonal flu vaccine last week. I got the Afluria prefilled, which has no thimerosal, adjuvants, formaldehyde, etc. I want to get the H1N1, but I'm not sure when I will have the opportunity to get it. I will wait until the Afluria prefilled analog version of the H1N1 vaccine becomes available, as I believe it is the safest one for my baby.

I wont be getting the flu shot, mainly because I dont think Im high risk to get it. I dont come in contact with many people everyday and have a really good ammune system. So heres to hand sanitizer! After the baby is born I would consider the seasonal flu shot though. DH has to get both shots, as he is military. And its a bummer because he hasnt been sick since he was a toddler so I feel his ammune system will protect him but unfortunatly like I said, he doesnt have a choice :?

No & No. I got the flu shot last year for the first time ever and had a horrible reaction..ended up at the Mayo Clinic for testing...and never got a clear answer. Since I am pregnant my docs actually reccommended that I don't get it as they don't want me to go through that again while being pregnant. DD did get the regular flu shot, and am not sure yet if she'll get the H1N1.
I am just being super viligant with hand washing and hand sanitizer and disinfecting toys, door knobs, etc. after friends come over to play!

No & No....

My doc just recommended I get the seasonal flu shot, I just nodded my head and left....because I know I'm not getting either. He did mention H1N1 Vac but was saying how it wasn't available in our area for other than healthcare workers at this time. I was already pissed with the doc's office about the lack of scheduling me for my u/s so I really didn't care to hear anything else he had to say , but either way I wasn't getting either anyhow.

The one time I got the flu shot I got sick....so no for me

I got the flu shot and do every year since I was a kid and when I didn't get it I was sicker than sick.

Not getting the h1ni shot though. Too new for me to be honest. I'll just stay in as much as possible if I have to.

I already got the seasonal shot- I specifically requested the preservative free version (no mercury).

I am planning on getting the preservative free h1n1 vaccine as well. Each year the CDC takes the flu strain that is expected to be the most prevelant and makes a vaccine for this particular strain. Absolutely no difference in how the h1n1 vaccine was made. It worries me so many pg women think it was someone 'rushed to market' and are choosing not to get it.

Simply being pg makes you high risk. This strain has already killed 76 children and it is only mid October. In a normal season, 44-86 children die of the flu. My OB reminded me yesterday that h1n1 is not typical in WHO it is affecting the most. Normally the seasonal flu hits the elderly and immune compromised the worst. H1N1 is hitting otherwise healthy adults, children and pg women the worst. Plus if you get vaccinated then when your baby is born it will also benefit.

My OB told that that ever since they removed the thirmersal (mercury) from many childhood vaccinations that the rate of autism has actually increased. We saw a great special on 20/20 a few weeks ago about this topic and I am really convinced that it is not mercury that causes autism. I personally beleive it has more to do with all the additives and garbage that so many people feed their kids (processed foods, any food with more than 10 ingredients, sodas, fast food, pre-packaged foods, etc.)

Anyway just my 2 cents... The issue now is FINDING the vaccine! GL to all of us this season. I am hoping and praying it will not be anywhere near as drastic as many health officials are predicting.

No I won't be getting the H1N1 shot, and I havent been offered the flu shot, but don't think I would take that either.

To me the H1N1 shot hasnt been tested enough on pregnant woman for me to feel ok about taking it, but thats just me?
