It's a girl!

We had some blood tests done because of my Rh sensitization and as a result, learned two pieces of awesome news.
The first is that this baby has a negative blood type which means no further extra monitoring, no transfusions, and no worries related to what happened with my first daughter.
We also were able to find out we are having another girl!

I'm very excited, so is my husband. We love our daughter (who will be almost 3 when this one comes) and are happy to be having another little girl who may be a spit-fire just like her big sister. The other perk is also that with them being born at the same time of year, almost all of big sister's hand-me-downs will go to the little one! That makes life a little easier!

Another "perk" is, while everyone would have loved a boy, it would be the first grandson in either family, so I felt like there would be a lot of pressure on him and on us. Plus, DH's family has a long-standing tradition of naming sons after fathers (DH is the Third) and we wanted to break that tradition but were unsure of the best process. It's nice not to worry about that!

So, my family of 4 will be 3 girls and one lucky, but outnumbered, daddy!!

:)

Congrats!! That is so neat that they can do that now! I wonder if the lab that took my blood work also has that info?

Congrats! I had the panorama test done which I'm still waiting on the results for. Amazing that you can find out the gender so early these days!

Mrs M, I think it's got to be a special type of test. Usually the Maternity21 tests are the ones that can tell you gender (those are the ones that test for Downs, Trisomy, etc). Those tests go to a lab in CA called Sequenom and they do that there. My blood test also was a special one that was ordered by a genetic counselor and sent to Sequenom. I think they are the only big company that does that sort of testing (at least, to my knowledge anyway). So if you had labs sent to them, they may be able to tell you. If the labs were done internally at your hospital, I don't think they can do gender. But maybe?

I just had that done, actually!! It was called the quad test, that tested for different genetic disorders, and the risk. My anatomy scan is on Weds anyway, so I may as well just wait...I was just curious haha. Well, congrats on your little girl!
