Pre-registering with Hospital & Classes

Postby mexicanchick718 » Fri Jan 03, 2014 3:57 pm

So I was on my Sutter Health Care website and it says to pre-register during your 2nd trimester to ensure they have a private room accomidated for you for delivery. Is it still too early?? I'm only 18 wks. When did you ladies register? What about classes?? What was usefull and what was pointless? Any advice would be helpful.

This is my first baby but I thought I would share my plan :)

I will probably do a tour between 28-30 weeks so I am still comfortable to move around and most likely preregister at time.

As far as the classes I figured since it's my first and I love researching and having a ton of info so I figured I would just take one child birth class that goes over technique of breathing and massages that the spouse can do to help relax.

Just do whatever feels comfortable with you there is no right or wrong :)

We did a tour at 16 weeks. I wanted to make sure I could still move and walk comfortably for the tour. Lol! I also pre-registered the same week. They never said it was too early to do that.

In terms of classes, we are signed up for a newborn care class in April and will probably do a birthing class too but haven't signed up for that yet.

I pre-registered today, i actually called to ask a ton.of questions. I guess with Sutter you get a private labor/delivery room and then get your own privaterecovery room. Awesome. I will be looking up the class schedules since they they fill up fast. I was thinking the ready set deliver and how to survivethe first month. I am the oldest sibling and member everything but being my own baby is a bit scary.

Yeah, I figured the classes couldn't hurt. My hospital is fairly new (within the last 3 yrs) and they only have all private rooms, which is nice.

I never took classes or a tour, but I really wished I had taken a tour. Where I was at the time was a small town with two hospitals but only one delivered babies so I had no choice on where to go lol. I had a private room but it was so flippin small I started having anxiety. The delivery room was huge but the recovery/after birth room was small as hell.

I am soooo glad this time I have a choice of 3 hospitals as far as insurance and doctors go. I am in Nashville so i'm sure my experience will be waaaaay better this time. I plan to go take a tour sometime after I get settled in move next month. I may pre-register soooner than that though. I think I've already decided which hospital I want.

We have an 8 week post-natal classes which takes place every Tuesday evening starting this coming Tuesday. DH and i are looking forward to it. We'll probably be able to find out during these classes when we should register for what since these classes take place at the hospital where i'll be having my baby. Otherwise i'll just ask my mid-wife at my next appointment on the 15th. I'm also hoping for a private room.

I think i might just take which ever ones i feel will actually help. Being a ftm im nervous and excited. I was a teenager when my siblings were born so i remember but its so different!

It also doesnt help that the time is FLYING! Next week i will be half way done and that much closer to have my baby.

We took our hospital tour a few weeks ago and I pre-registered the next day. I'm due May 15, but there was a woman on the tour with me who was having her C-section the next day. I think that's procrastination at it's worst.

As for classes, I have signed up for the three-part childbirth class series for three Wednesdays in March, a baby-care class the last Wednesday in March and two breastfeeding classes: one for beginners and a "how to return to work" class. At the hospital where I'm delivering I was able to sign up for all six for a total cost of $45. Not too bad, if you ask me :)

Wow, Beyond! That's a great deal. My hospital is way overpriced! The newborn care class alone is $30.

I signed the girls up for a big sister class in April. They are asked to bring a babydoll with them so they can practice changing diapers, I am sure that they are going to LOVE it! They are both so excited for their little sisters arrival.

I will be taking a hypnobirthing class in probably March or April.
