Just wondering :)

The affectionately named "honeymoon trimester". Your belly is getting bigger and you start to feel your first baby kicks. Are you having a boy or a girl?

So, I'm sure some of you have gotten the "Are you sure there's not two in there?!" response. Okay and if you haven't then I feel bad because I have lol

I've had two ultrasounds. One at 6 weeks and one at about 9 weeks. I was browsing around the net and was reading people that have had numerous early ultrasounds and a twin wasn't discovered until 20 weeks at the anatomy scan... some were 14+ weeks... and some not until birth! With multiple ultrasounds! Some even went in and thought there was a twin and had a tech specifically look for one and there was nothing.

I realize that is probably very rare but there were quite a few women with similar stories. Most all I was reading were over 30 (usually 34 or 35).

I have some twins in my family. My mom's mom's (lol) so my grandma has twin brothers. There are more too but I can't remember who. Some on DH's side as well. I am 31.

I know I'm crazy (hormones) but I've been thinking twins since early on... and have dreams about it. I looked up twin dreams and it could be I'm battling a couple of different issues at the same time. So I'm not putting that much stock into it. But just wondering if this has happened to anyone on here?

SUPER WEIRD but I still have yet to have had my belly measured. Is that normal? I just had an appointment on Jan 2 and I was 13 weeks. No measuring. I haven't been pregnant for about 3.5 years lol but I thought I remembered them always measuring the belly at every appointment?

Regarding the belly measuring, I think they start doing that around 24 weeks. I know that's the norm here, and coincides with what i've read.

As far as the twin thing goes, I guess if you consider that u/s might be faulty, then there's no way to know FOR SURE until the baby is born. I can say I had the same twin fears because I thought I was only 3 weeks along when I got a BLAZING bfp. I asked a friend who is actually expecting twins and she said she got a blazing positive before missed period, was immediately sick, and was EXHAUSTED. She said the fatigue didnt even compare to her other two pregnancies. She has also gotten larger more quickly, of course, I think she was 4 weeks ahead at 23 weeks.

I think the two ultrasounds you have had can be considered pretty conclusive... I know it's hard when you are thinking everything can point to twins but sometimes a lot of that stuff is mental, you know? Like your dreams, they may indicate twins, or it may just be that you are thinking about it a lot so your dreams are reflecting that.

Agreed :0 I was more just curious on if this is happened to anyone. I can't even imagine that type of shock! lol

Maybe the doctor I had the first couple of pregnancies did things differently lol. It was a general doctor for both and not an OB. This is my first experience with an OB. My general doc had measured me from early on. With my first that's why I had an early ultrasound because I was measuring ahead already.

Weird :)

I'm sure it could happen, but I think its less likely if they haven't detected yet. However a friend of mine didn't find out she was having twins via ultrasound until her last one at 8months. Every u/s they were lying on top of each other so she only thought she was having a boy!! They are 15 now so maybe technology was not as great then? Idk but thats shocking!

I have twin sons that are almost 16yrs old. It's not all that common for a twin to be missed for such a long period of time. My twins are fraternal so they weren't in the same sac and it made it easier to see them from the get go. Also, FYI not all twins run in families. Only fraternal twins are genetic and it only matters if it's on the mother's side. It's a common misconception that all types of twins are genetic. So, if you have fraternal twins in your family on your mother's side then you are more likely to have twins but it's not a given and age also increases the risk (but that's generally for identical twins because the eggs are aged and more likely to split) I am pregnant with #5 and get the crap statement about if there is only 1. They obviously forgot how huge my stomach was with my twins or they wouldn't be so rude as to make the comment. I've had 4 kids for crying out loud and I'm in my 30's. I had my twins when I was 17 and barely weighed 100lbs when I got pregnant. I was overweight still from my last child when I got pregnant unexpectedly (IUD baby) with my son that's due in April. Plus, you carry different each time so I find comments about women's belly size just plain rude and irritating. My youngest daughter is 17 months and I didn't look half as big at 24wks with her as I do my boy. I always show fast and grow fast with boys for some reason. Also, the fundal height measurement usually doesn't start until 24-28wks. Sorry if my answer is a bit scattered lol. Multitasking ;)

I have a friend whos cousin didn't know she was having twins until an u/s at 31 weeks, she had had 3 ultra sounds before that and they still didn't see the twin. I think it is rare to miss a twin nowadays but it can happen. I had an u/s at 8 weeks and it showed only one baby but even I have wondered ......what if......what if they missed one, I have been so much more sick with this one and this is baby number 6. I watched a youtube video of a family finding out at 18 weeks that they were having twins when they had an u/s at 8 weeks that only showed one and their dr had only ever found one heart beat 8O
