weight gain

Postby Sarbear819 » Wed Jan 15, 2014 12:18 pm

I am 22 weeks and 2 days. I had an appointment yesterday and I have already gained 22lbs from my pre-pregnancy weight. I was relatively small before and ran a great deal. I have completely cut out running and definitely haven't been eating the way that I used to, but this speed of weight gain was shocking to me. So, today started boot camp. Of course I won't diet, but no more milkshake and pizza binges for me. :( Anyone else feel like they are gaining too quickly?

I live in Virginia, so it is pretty cold here. I guess the lack of running plus the winter hibernation are big contributors.

Agreed. I think that has a lot to do with it. Just being cold and ick out! Can't really get out and walk. If it were me and the doctors weren't worried about it then I would just keep doing what you're doing. Maybe dial it back a bit if you think you are overdoing it a lot. Lady I used to work with gained 65 pounds with her first! I guess if there is no health concerned I pretty much feel "whatever" :)

Don't be too hard on yourself :)

With me - the docs don't want me to gain more than 15 pounds TOPS but would rather see like 10 pounds. Now in the heck is that possible? lol

Yep i`m with you, gained about 22/23lbs so far, and i like you was quite small and worked out 4/5 times per week running. When i got my BFP i stopped the gym as i just was sick and nauseous all the time. At 16 weeks i was only 7 lbs up, the rest has come on in this time, i`m gaining about 2 lbs a week at the mo. I feel bad that my weight is creeping on, and i really wanted to only gain 25lbs this whole time, one because i didn`t wanna get unhealthy and two i`m getting married 5 months after bubs birth. But i just can`t stop it, so i`m gonna embrace it now i think, fingers crossed it comes off in end.

If it makes you feel any better look up the stats for the necessary weight for the pregnancy. As an average:
http://www.marchofdimes.com/glue/images ... Table.jpeg
It lists about 29 pounds on average and gives the weights of things - approx. I mean, I had 9 pound babies!

SO don't get too discouraged. Do you plan to breastfeed? I hear that will take the weight off faster. But realize that the baby weight (no matter how much you gain.. that belly) wont' come off as soon as baby comes. It takes a bit for the belly to go down.

Just don't stress about it the best you can.

Ive gained faster than i had hoped. I lost alot of weight after my last baby, but he was only 6 months when i got pg for this one, and to stave off ms i had to snack and keep my tummy full. But, ill get it off somehow. I wont be able to eat goodies after baby so ill indulge a little now :)

Exactly :) I figure there is so much pressure to be "thin" these days anyway... heck, just embrace being pregnant and not having to worry about dieting or being thin for now. Worry about the rest later :)

I gained weight really fast during early pregnancy as well. I remember hitting the teens in weight gain when all the books were saying I should only be at 2 or 3 pounds. Whoops! I think at first I was not drinking enough water and retaining a lot. Now, I'm at about a gallon a day and things have really slowed down. I'm up 38.5 pounds. I am only gaining about 1-2 pounds every two weeks in my third tri as opposed to before...and now I'm so tired, hungry, and achey that I'm allowing myself more snacks and working out less so I *should* be gaining more now than before, I think, but that's not the case. It's weird. I'm weird. Pregnancy is weird. :)

All my weight gain seems to be in my boobs, stomach, and a little thigh action. The rest of me is just the same as before. My CNMW said she was not concerned as I passed my diabetes test and everything looks good, including baby's size. She said as long as I don't hit 60 pounds up she is happy. It's different for every woman!

Glad to hear that I'm not the only one concerned about weight gain in early pregnancy! MommaR, thanks for the link and it sounds like you have a good attitude about the weight gain. I know that this time should be enjoyed and the health of the baby should be the only priority. I read somewhere recently that women should gain approximately 1 lb a week after the 20 week mark...which would put my weight gain at over 4o lbs, which is definitely more than I'm comfortable with (mainly because I'm really short). But, I guess that if that happens, it happens and breast feeding and exercise will take it off later. My sister made a good point last night. She said that if I do end up gaining more than I want, then look at it as a good excuse to give my husband some one-on-one time with the baby and get out for some "me time" and go for runs after the he is born.

I agree and that's a fantastic plan! Baby daddy bonding time while you go out and have some time to run... which would be great for your mind as well :) I plan to do the same thing :)

I am VERY short as well... so the weight just goes in my belly every time mainly and literally just sits there lol. But ah well, when you are pregnant you gain weight. Well worth it for what you get in the end :)

I am completely excited about seeing my baby in July... and then taking all of the kids on family walks every night. That would be amazing. (especially because we're expecting 3 inches of snow today lol) I can't even handle it. I need it to be warm! :)

Don't worry! I gained 45 lbs with DS1 and almost all of that was during the second tri! It all came off within a year thanks to breastfeeding and babywearing. With DS2 I gained about 25 and it was gone in 6 months.

With this one, I was up 12 lbs at 20 weeks (and 7 of those were in the previous month hopefully due to the holidays), and I am betting I've gained at least another 5 at my next appointment. My doctor has never said a word about my weight so I'm guessing it's ok... C'est la vie... I have faith it will all come off again running after three kids!!

With ds1 I gained about 45lbs. At first I wasn't gaining enough so dr was concerned, then in last trimester I was gaining too much :-/
I wouldn't worry too much if all of your testing is fine and baby is healthy. Trying to eat better is a great thing to do. You'll feel good and be getting the nutrients you need.

My midwife and I had a long talk about it last night. She agreed that I have been gaining weight a little too fast for my height. But, I was so incredibly sick the first 15-17 weeks and the only thing that made me feel better was laying on the couch and eating fatty food. She said that it is very common for women who have bad nausea the first trimester to gain a lot of weight because they have to eat all of the time to make themselves feel better...of course obviously a lot of women lose weight during this time because they can't keep anything down at all! I was one of the women who ate constantly! She said that there is nothing I can do about that now, but just to really buckle down now and make sure that I am putting the RIGHT things in my body and watching saturated fats and sugars. She laid the momma guilt on me and said that everything I am putting in right now is setting up those organs and having an effect on my baby's future health. So, here we go. I am planning out each of my meals carefully now so that there is no room for binging with the wrong things. Whole grains, lean meat, and lots of veggies! Hopefully that will be better for my baby and slow my weight gain a bit. It was rough to hear that my midwife agrees that my weight gain is too much, but I needed the tough love. :)
