Not sleeping well :(

Postby JADE0199 » Thu Feb 06, 2014 12:08 pm

Hi ladies

Some nights I just do not sleep well. I am not sure why or what is waking me up but occasionally I wake up for the day feeling exhausted, groggy and light headed. I know some nights I toss and turn to get comfortable and baby is kicking me when I lay on my side and am not sure if that is why I am waking up feeling so tired. I am usually in bed by 10-11pm and wake up around 6am and on a good night I typically sleep through the night without any disturbances.

I read in several places that it was safe to take Unisom for nasea in pregnancy. Does anyone know if its safe to take to help you sleep better? And will I wake up feeling drowsy?

thanks in advance

Sure is safe :) Get them from the pharmacy (not behind the counter) and just take a 1/2 pill. Works wonders. Unisom taken with B6 helps with nausea but it Unisom is a sleep aid on it's own. That's what the package is labeled as. So if it's safe to take for that then it's safe to take by itself :) The reason they tell you to take it with B6 (50mg) for nausea is that for some reason that combo has the same effect as script nausea meds do. So they try that before moving on to meds.

I would say get some and give it a try! If you are super nervous about it you can call and ask your doc... my doc had sent me an approved meds list and Unisom was on it.

I took it with the B6 for about 8 weeks I would say and I slept fantastic!

I take two ZMA pills every night (with the approval of my OB) and they definitely help me sleep. I notice the difference when I don't take them because I'll wake up throughout the night and just in general feel more groggy.
They help you sleep and sleep deeper and are all nautral...zinc, magnesium, and B6

Give it a try. I actually just took a Unisom last night because I was tossing and turning still at 10:30 and I knew I'd be tired. I still wake up during the night even if I take unisom but I seem to fall back to sleep more quickly if I take it vs when I dont. I also like that it doesnt have any bad side effects in the morning like Tylenol PM does - I'm not groggy the next day.
Another thing you could try is to drink a cup of warm tea or something like that before bed. If I drink some around 8:30-9 and then get ready for bed around 9:30 or so, I am nice and cozy from the tea. Doesnt always help, but it does sometimes. Good luck!

Diclectin is essentially the same as unisom and b6 and I was taking 4 a day for weeks then recently went to 3 then 2 now I'm 1 at night and 1 during the day if I need it so you'll be fine taking 1 a night :)

Thanks ladies. sorry I'm getting back to you so late. its crazy hectic busy here. the Twinkies keep me on my toes.

I wound up taking 1/2 of a Unisom that night I my heart was racing like crazy. it was horrible and scary. I was so exhausted I just lay there trying to ignore it. The baby was bouncing all over the place too, so baby must have felt "racy" too. IDK. I did eventually go back to sleep that night and woke up ok.
I read that taking 1/2 could have that effect. I was afraid to try a whole one in fear that it would happen again or that I would wake up drowsy.

I've had another couple of rough nights again and would like 1 night of a nice deep sleep. Should I try taking a whole one next time?
