Amnio results...longest wait ever

Postby Southerngirl419 » Mon Aug 25, 2014 3:28 pm

Anyone else had to have an amnio done. They found some fluid on our little guys chest and possibly something going on behind his skull, which is extremely scary!! We had an amnio done last Tuesday, didnt hurt real bad, mostly a pinching feeling...but I'm so so so scared of the results. We already got the fish results back, preliminary all came back negative, but I'm most scared of the test that shows if their is brain matter in the fluid...if there is its fatal. I feel like this has been the most emotional week of my life! Hoping test results come in sometime this week!! Praying for my little guy to be ok every day, more like 29,000 times a day but you understand.

Anyone else going through some issues, nueral tube defects or downs and are going though the longest wait of your life??

Lurking from January due date.
I had an amnio just last Wednesday, testing for toxoplasmosis. The dr said it takes two to three weeks for results. On Friday the dr called, the results came in on Friday. All negative. I did not realize how stressful waiting in the results was until the wait was over. I will keep you in my thought, it's not a fun time, but I hope the results get back to you quickly and there is nothing wrong.

Does the Maternit21 test or one of the other genetic tests give you a more accurate result than the amnio? My doc pushed an amnio on me 5 years ago (which I declined in favor of wait and see since I figured there was nothing I could do about a problem at 5 months along and there was a risk with amnio). But this time around he suggested getting the genetic test because it's non-invasive and very accurately measures all of the baby's chromosomal possibilities in the first trimester. We skipped the NT exam because we did the Maternit21 instead which is more accurate anyway. I'm still waiting for the results. I was able to qualify for "high risk" because I'm 36 going on 37... so it's free for me. But cost could be an issue.

Im not sure if they test for the same things, the biggiest thing my dr was worried about was the alpha feta protien in amniotic fluid, so an amnio was really the only option i had.

we did recieve news that the t 13, 18, & 21 all came back negative as well as the AFP, so so so thankful and continue to pray for our little guy. He still has fluid in his chest and the thickend Nuchal Fold.

Good to hear that the test came back negative, such a huge relief right? I am sorry to hear they could not put all your worries to rest, but I hope your little one is safe and healthy.
