The first flutters

Postby sunmaid » Fri Oct 17, 2014 12:02 pm

I think I've been excited to feel the baby move. Every twitch and pip of gas I think, is that baby? Been doing that since about 11 weeks.

How do you know it's baby? Well, when you know, you know. And now I finally know.

It feels like tiny taps. Then I feel fluttery. But it's there and there is nothing else it could be. And it's pretty consistent now. I can guarantee that every time after I eat something high carb or sugary, I'll start feeling those taps and flutters, particularly when I'm just sitting still. My brain isn't registering that it's anything else. It's not gas. It's not muscle twitches. There is a little creature inside of me, moving and kicking according to the firing of it's central nervous system. And soon, that person will be it's own individual with it's own thoughts and wants and personality.

There is nothing like feeling a baby move inside of you that confirms you aren't just getting fat, you aren't just sick. You really are growing a person. And it's AWESOME.

I'm still struggling to figure out if I'm feeling baby or just gas bubbles. I started feeling a "thrumming" that was accompanied by a strange, tingly sensation around 13 weeks. I thought that might be baby, but there's never really been anything definitive. I've also thought that I've felt a kick or jab a few times in the past week-10d, and one time when my hand was on my lower abdomen, I thought I felt it from the outside at the same time, but still.... nothing I"d say with 100% certainty isn't due to my usually-bubbly intestinal tract. Guess when it happens for real, I'll know it...

I can tell that my uterus is much higher now than it used to be. Tall and narrow right now. Having a hard time finding the top as I have a bit of extra belly flab right now, but if I lay on my stomach, I can feel pressure about half-way to my belly button, so I'm assuming that's where it is. Had to move the Doppler up just a bit to find the HB last night, and I finally started hearing some strange whooshing sounds, that I'm assuming are placenta...

I have tummy fat too and a short torso. I find that a belly band smooths and rounds out the bump and if I wear maternity shirts I avoid looking like I am heavy. I can still sleep on my belly with out discomfort. I was able to sleep on my stomach until I was about 24 weeks with my first and even up to 20 weeks I could suck In my stomach and not look pregnant. But now with my flabby ab muscles and my previous baby pooch that aint happening. I felt my first a day or so shy of 16 weeks but I didnt feel anything really consistent until 20 weeks.

I felt my baby as early as 10/11 weeks... thumps on the inside of my pubic bone almost everyday! Now that im 14 almost 15 weeks and my uterus is above my pubic bone I have felt almost nothing except a jab or two in the last couple of days. Doc says I couldnt have felt the baby move that early but the thumping is gone and I cant imagine what else that could have been. :)

I felt the thumping at 12 weeks. It was more like a flick, flick, flick right at the tip of my pubic bone. Now I feel him all the time. He keeps kicking me in my cervix and throwing jabs at my left side. Little bundle of energy.

I started feeling some small flutters a couple weeks ago, here and there. The last time I felt anything was Saturday. Is this common? It freaks me out that I felt something and now it's been two days and I haven't felt a thing. I can't wait until this baby is kicking me all the time so I know everything's okay.

Blueswallow I think it is normal. I'm 17 weeks tomorrow and the flutters started a couple of weeks ago. They are more frequent now but they definitely weren't daily at first. Some days are still more active than others though - I had loads of really strong flutters on Sunday and then hardly any yesterday (I checked with my Doppler and bean's little heart was beating away). Try not to worry, hopefully it won't be long now until we feel those nice reassuring kicks! x

Finally this past week I've felt what I'm sure is baby and not just gas bubbles or stomach rumblings. It is pretty incredible. :)
