Disappering belly button, weight gain and other things...

Postby TTContheDL » Mon Dec 15, 2014 9:50 am

So my skin is stretching to accommodate growing baby but two things are bothering me about this:
1.) Where the helll did my belly button go? This creeps me out! It's not deep like it was before and is almost flush with the rest of my stomach.
2.) I am seeing numbers on the scale that I've never seen before. I am on target with how far along I am but it's still hard to see numbers you've worked hard to stay away from. This baby needs space and I am supposed to gain weight, but it still is hard to process. My brain is telling me, " OMG get to the gym ASAP" haha

Those two things also make me feel like a different person. I've always thought I was a pretty average looking person so to have these changes occur makes me feel undesirable and unattractive. Hubby seems to be in the mood as always but I can't seem to get over this belly. I've asked him not to touch it when we are intimate because then I know he notices it. He understands but thinks I'm crazy haha Anyone else so glad to be pregnant but having body issues?

Yes, I also hate seeing the numbers go up. But you have to remember that you're pregnant. It's inevitable! Intellectually we know we have to get bigger, but somehow it seems like we can just avoid it if we try hard enough. (We can't!)

As long as you're within the recommended weight gain from your doctor, try not to worry about the scale. And remember that not gaining is actually a bad thing. You're doing exactly what you're supposed to be doing.

With dd1, I was overweight when I got pregnant (my bmi was 33). She must have been pulling nutrients from me (plus, I was eating better) so I actually lost weight during the pregnancy. By the time I hit 26 weeks, I still hadn't put on one ounce. My doctor FREAKED. Emergency ultrasound, extra bloodwork. It doesn't matter what your previous condtion was, it's still considered a bad thing to not see the scale move. So with dd2, I started around the same weight, and the same thing happened. Before this pregnancy, I lost a good amount of weight. Bmi down to 27, and this time, I'm gaining the standard amount of weight (about 6-7 lbs so far). And it's making me a little crazy! Though I KNOW it's normal, and it's what my docs prefer to see, I can't help but think 'All of my hard work is going out the window.' I just have to remind myself - if I did it once, I can do it again. :)

I'm the same! I worked for years to keep my stomach flat and now it's all round! I've just got the energy to start back at the gym and have been doing pregnancy yoga. It's nothing like the exercise I used to do but it makes me feel a bit better about myself. I'm not too worried while I'm pregnant but I'd be upset if I put on loads of weight and struggled to lose it once the baby is born.

That's what I'm worried about too. With this being my first baby, I don't know how long it will take to get the weight off. So far, though, it seems like the change is mostly in my boobs and my bump. I don't even see a real change in my face, although I've gained 10-15 pounds depending on who you ask. When I was at this weight before due to gaining from medication, I did see a change in my face and my body overall. So I'm holding out hope that it really is baby weight!

If you breast feed after baby is born, you'll be surprised at how quickly you will shed any extra pounds. I can't remember exactly how much weight total I gained during my previous pregnancies, but I got back to normal quite quickly afterwards...just another benefit of breastfeeding ;)

Try not to worry too much about the weight gain. As long as you are aware that it has to come off after I think you have a head start. I've always gained at least 50 lbs in my pregnancies and I've lost every single bit plus some each time. I'm on track to do the same with this one. I throw up for 20 weeks too and I still manage to gain that much weight. My dr said that some women just gain more than others. She isn't concerned at all. I eat fairly healthy too. I just embrace it :) Trust me I hate seeing that scale go up too but it is all worth it when you see that precious baby.
