Concerned about due date

Postby peaches118 » Sat Dec 20, 2014 12:54 pm

Question. Just had my anatomy scan and met with my Ob for the first time the other day. My doc's office hadn't sent over the paper work yet, but they had given me a dating ultrasound and put me at 18 weeks today. When I went to see my Ob they were still going by my lmp saying I was 19 weeks today. Do anatomy scans automatically do dating? I am so nervous that if I go to 40 weeks they will think I am at 41 and induce me!? I also know I have to be at 18 weeks because I was charting. So, should I just print that off and show them?! Maybe baby is just big? I am confused.

Thanks soo much!

My doctor said they don't induce due to being late until 42 weeks. I know that is just my doctors but also they told me I was dating a week behind at my scan but I figure I will take that on later if I end up going over. It never hurts to just talk to your doctor about it.

I am sure once you get to 40 weeks you will be gladly induced ;P due dates change all of the time, the ultrasound should give you an estimation too, but from my experience in the hospital, unless there is a problem the induction usually happens at 42 weekish, and most women are super over it by then and want it over and done with.

Ultrasound dating becomes less accurate the farther along you are. Keep in mind the LMP is the preferred means of dating. In the early first trimester, the due date is based on the US over the LMP only if it differs by a significant margin (I don't recall if it's 5 or 7 days). In other words, if you were dated to be 8 weeks by your LMP but your US measured 8 weeks +/- 3 days, they would still go by your LMP. By 18-20 weeks when the anatomy scan is performed, the US and LMP can differ by almost 2 weeks without the docs changing your due date from your LMP. So being off by 1 week at this point doesn't matter...they'll still go by your LMP. Does that make sense?
