Switching Doctors?

Postby 1sttimemommy » Sun Dec 21, 2014 10:28 pm

I have decided to switch doctors to the big city (Well, Louisville, Kentucky) my last appointment my doctor made me feel highly uncomfortable and that I was crazy. I went and seen him because I had spent 2 days in the ER with very very bad dehydration and vomiting, fever, and lower abdominal pain. Yet the ER confirmed that my babies were fine, they told me to follow up with my OB within two days, so I did. The doctor proceeded to tell me I am worrying for nothing and that I am going to make myself miserable throughout my whole pregnancy (WTH!?!?!?!) And that I need to lose weight! And also, pushed back my next baby appointment to the 13th of January. Also, I am having TWINS and they have not done any kind of blood work not even the MaterniT21 that I wanted to check for DS. And haven't done an ultrasound since I was 7w5d. He continuously tries to use the doppler for HBs then gets irritated when he can't find them and has to wheel in the small u/s machine to get their heartbeats. I am just highly upset so I found a better OB in Louisville that a few of my girlfriends have used for their babies and when I looked into it, they said they do an ultrasound at every appointment because of the difficulty in finding heartbeats of twins using the doppler. 2nd of all, they do all the testing needed to MAKE SURE my babies are healthy.

But am I really worrying for nothing? I mean I am 13 1/2 weeks pregnant, and I tried for 9 years to get pregnant, and I FINALLY am, and this is how the doctor treats me? Am I just being hormonal?

Oh, good hell. No, you are not being hormonal! Two days in the ER is most definitely a cause for concern. I am so tired of pregnant women being dismissed by doctors and everyone else. It's also ridiculous to blame you for your illness by saying you're "making yourself sick."

I don't blame you for finding another doctor.

I agree, switch doctors! My doctor told me since I'm having twins I am to get an ultrasound at every appt as well. I think that's how it's supposed to go with twins. Although now that Im in the second Tri, I only have one appt every four weeks rather than every two weeks. But it will go back to every two weeks in the last Tri. I like my doctor but I have to switch as well as they don't have a nicu in the hospital my doctor delivers at. :/

What an awful doctor. Even if he felt that way there is a tactful, caring and professional way to give your opinion. The fact that he's rude and hasn't bothered to do u/s's would have me running to a good OB. Trust your instincts, Mama. You can't go wrong. :)

Def switch. I know all too well how these stories are. I work in healthcare. You have the right to feel comfortable going to and being at your apts. They are something to look forward to and no DR should EVER make you feel how you are feeling. Switching is a good thing and you are going to feel soooo much better and at ease with a new one. 9 years to get prego...girl you have the right to anything and everything I feel. Good luck!!
