Colostrum anyone?

Postby cbusch87 » Thu Jan 22, 2015 11:01 pm

Ever since about 7 weeks I've noticed this dried discharge on/in my nipples. I had no clue what it was but it was like this dried yogurt consistency. Then a few days ago, right at 13 weeks, I had shooting pains in my nipples randomly but a ton throughout the day. That night I was "inspecting" my boobs to try to figure out what was with the pain and realized if I squeeze my boobs, this clear liquid comes out of my nipples. It's like super slick feeling and then as it dries it feels really sticky. I googled it and am pretty sure it's colostrum, but it's SO early! And I'm pretty certain that I must've been leaking a little bit since 7 weeks because of that dried stuff I'd been noticing.

So I'm just wondering if anyone else has this?? Is this your first baby? If not, did this happen in your first pregnancy? Were you able to breastfeed? I'm hoping that the early appearance of colostrum will mean that my boobs will be able to produce milk as I'd love to try breastfeeding. I know my mom had a supply issue so that's why I've been worried.

I've had the caked on stuff since about 10 weeks. I actually got a milk blister at 8 weeks! It happened with my other two kids, too. I don't know if it's any indication of future production, though. I wasn't able to bf, but I have latching problems, not supply problems. I hope it's a good sign, though! :)

I've had this since 6 weeks! This is my first pregnancy as well and when I asked people what it was they looked at me crazy like it's too early for that stuff. Glad I'm finally not the only one. But only one nipple has it. The nipple that doesn't have it is an inverted nipple so I worry if it'll ever come in?

I have been having it too for weeks and noticed it with my girls too. If I squeeze a drop of it comes out. It's just your body preparing to breastfeed.
Try to forget about the issues anyone has scared you with about breastfeeding and try now to do as much research as possible and research where in your area you will be able to get help breastfeeding so if you need it you know where to go.
A lot of breastfeeding success is in your mind, if your body isn't relaxed then its hard to let down and be comfortable. I had a ton of latching issues, but once I got help all the blisters and cracked nipples went away.

I had noticed a small amount that had dried up one one nipple only. Wasn't sure what it was but now I know!

Glad to know I'm not the only one... I've asked my pregnant friends and none have had this yet so it sounds normal to not have it too! This is my first pregnancy also.

mine look dry and maybe cracked?? not sure but def changing tho... idk if its normal or not. I was reading in my book it says not to put any lotion on breast/nipple bc it covers the natural oils the body is making to prepare for BF buuut idk. Haven't noticed any fluid tho.
