FTM Bump Questions for Experienced Moms

I'm 13w3d today and I can't wait to get a bump! Since about 9 weeks I have been super bloated but actually lost about 5 lb during the 1st trimester. Because of the bloat I have been doing the hairtie-on-the-jeans trick, but all the extra fluff is really just fluff.

I'm curious as to what the "real" bump feels like when it comes on. Is it all soft and mushy or will I feel a hard ball that's the growing uterus? How long did it take for everyone to look *really* pregnant? At this point I can't suck my tummy flat, and I could before, but I just look thicker all over my midsection. I'm pretty tall (5'9") and didn't start overweight so I'm guessing it could take a while. :( All the websites say my baby hit over 3" long now, and it's just hard to believe that big fella is in there and I can't see or feel anything!

I'm on my 3rd pregnancy and didn't start noticeably showing till around 15w. Was around the same for my 2nd but i think way later for my first.. Maybe around 20w, even. I am about your height and usually around 123lbs when not pregnant. There is a firmness to my bump when im standing up and i can feel the uterus when I press down, but when im sitting or lying it kinda just feels/looks like a flabby fat tummy lol! Hope this helps some :)

Oh and I will just add that even though it was noticeable *to me* at 15w, I dont think my bump would have been noticeable to everyone. About 18w is when most people could have guessed I was pregnant.

I didn't have people tell me I "look pregnant" until 23 weeks or so. I am also tall and fairly thin so what felt like a huge belly to me wasn't really noticeable to everyone else I guess. Finally at 26 weeks people are asking when I'm due! Ps my bump is hard as a rock most of the time lol

I'm 5'8" and not overweight when not pg too, just "average". This is my 5th baby (but I've had more pregnancies) and I was showing "for real" (not bloat, but uterus) at 10 weeks this time, as well as last time. It was obvious to most everyone around 15 weeks, unless I was wearing a sweatshirt or something. Your uterus will push out at the bottom and squeezes everything to the top, hence the rounded tummy. LOL When you can feel your fundus over your pubic bone, it kinda feels like a baseball in there. In the early stages I can only feel mine when laying down.

Agree with previous posters. I am short and have a short torso, and am into heavy athletics (Scottish highland games) and weightlifting. I didn't have time to lose the weight from my last pregnancy completely before I got pregnant again (got back to the same size but def not the same shape lol) - my upper part of my tummy started showing before everything rounded out around 22 weeks. I just looked fat before that. I can already feel the same thing happening again even though I am barely 5 weeks, but I think that's because I was pregnant not so long ago. Your belly will get hard sometime between 20-24 weeks I would say, but it varies for everyone. Congrats on your sticky baby girl!!
