I stopped working a month ago and am currently on short term disability until my maternity leave kicks in ( when the baby is born) I was a nurse doing straight nights so it was really messing up my body, but the original plan was for me to work until this week.. I'm happy I am off though, I don't have to stress too much about not getting a good nights sleep and all that fun!

I'm a sahm and have been since I had our 1st (this is our 2nd) but in actuality besides school before being pregnant I was just a stay at home wife. That was a bitboring but school kept me occupied, I've stopped school for now, til thekids start their school. I do love being a sahm though, can be tiring but very rewarding as well. (not that being a working mom isn't). One day I will be a working mom, I think sometimes we sahm need adult interaction. I do get some with the playdates and going out for girls night, but not as most do. Good luck with your decision

Just a warning from my experience, make SURE you can leave when you want. I just got screwed by my employer, and was not allowed to leave on my due date without doctor's permission.

At least in my state, you can't just take FMLA maternity leave, or Short Term Disability, when you want - it kicks in when the baby is born. So if you want time off before the labor/delivery, you have to have a medical reason from your doc, OR you have to get permission from your boss to use vacation/sick time or unpaid time off. I was NOT given that permission, and I'll forever be raw about it. I'm sure my situation is rare, just double triple check, it was HORRIBLE having to keep working past my due date!!!! :)

I worked until I was 36 weeks 1 day.I delivered exactly 4 weeks later.I wanted to give 2 weeks notice but when people do that at my job my boss would either cut everyones hours down to nothing or completely take them off the schedule.So...On that day I gave no notice and just said see ya! I wasn't planning on coming back though so it was worth it

I worked until 25w2d, but my contract ended (as did the school year). There was no point in me going back for 5 weeks at the beginning of the school year, so I just chose to sit this whole school year out, and probably next year, as well. We'll see.

amandapanda: i think i read a post about your situation with your employer. sorry you are going through that. i checked with my employer, they are pretty laid back when it comes to that stuff, but i work in medical feild. i don't get paid maternity leave so i have to use my sick and vacation pay and then after that i am considered fmla, but we don't get paid for it.

I'm working to about 36 weeks. I'd love to finish earlier but I just don't have the luxury of loads of leave. One of the parents at work asked me when I was finishing up and was shocked when I said about 36 weeks. I wish we all had the luxury of 6 months paid maternity leave, but I work in child care rather than as a research scientist at a university, it's not like my field is at all socially respectable  *grumble rant*

and Violet Joy: born Thursday 19th, VBAC waterbirth, 39w2d, 3.35kg/7lbs 6oz, still a booby monster, just shared it with her big sister for 18 months.

My Dr will not let me go past 39 weeks. If I end up scheduled for an induction I'll stop working the Friday before and use vacation time for the days leading up to the induction.

I work from home, so it isn't too bad - I can work from my pajamas on the couch if that's what I need to do. :)

pixieb: i respect the child care field. i have recently gone through a rough time with my daycare provider, and found out a few things if i had known ahead of time would not have taken my child to her. we need good child care providers. plus taking care of a lot of kids at one time is a lot of work.

With Deztyni, I worked the day before she was born. I went to work...was admitted to the hospital that evening and she was born 12 hours later

With Caydyn I worked up until 2 days before he was born and never returned from maternity leave.
I am still a SAHM and LOVING it! :D
