i was in prodromal labor when i had it done. i had it done around 3-4 times over the course of a week and it made me loose my plug, stretch me that little bit further each time and gave me contractions but they soon stopped. my sons head was not in the right place so they would start and stop within 2 hours. nightmare. but i agree they are good for getting things going!

oh and i was over 41 weeks

I was 36 weeks. Dialated 2 cm. It hurt like the dickons and did nothing.
I had it done again at 37 weeks, dialated 3 cm, hurt like crazy did nothing, just a little cramping.
Had DS just shy of 38 weeks. Water broke spontaneously, and in hard core labor right after that, contractions every 3 minutes, lasting 2 minutes.
Good luck!

With my first yes 5 days early twice. Two days in a row it started it all going. I lost the pug and labor started slowly from that point on. They striped on thurs and Friday labor started Sat and progressed until it reached a strong pattern Sunday evening we went in and got sent home. About 11 water broke she was born at 3:02 monday afternoon.

I'm hoping to get it done this time. But it really hurt! Sucked is a good description!

I had it done at 38 and 39 weeks. It was pretty uncomfortable, but not really painful. I had contractions the first time, but nothing exciting. Within about 2 hours the second time I started spotting and having real labor contractions. I had DS1 about 10 hours later!

I was 39w5d and 3cm when I had mine. It hurt like hell and I lost my plug 5 days later. Didn't go into real labor for another 2 days.

I was 39 weeks and 6 days and it killed!! Made me terrified for the actual birth!! The weird thing was he kept poking the babies head and it would kick so hard.
That afternoon I started having brown goopy discharge and later that day j lost my mucous plug (no mistaking what it was).

That night I had some really bad cramping and the next day my water broke! :-) then Daisy was born the next afternoon.

I was just shy of 41 weeks. I started regular contractions immediately and went into active labour 2.5 days later. Yes,n I'5 say it worked, but it hurt and it made me extremely nauseous. I wouldn't do it unless you are actually overdue and facing pressure for a chemical induction. If you're not close to labour, it's added misery for nothing.

My doc and I had a very interesting conversation about this. He said that he doesn't do it b/c it leads to a lot of unneccesary c-sections. He told me that it gets women excited it it "works" they show up at the hospital and then get intervention after intervention and end up in surgery b/c their body wasn't ready yet. I asked him in my situation since I'll be VBACing if he'd do it if it were close to the c-section date and he said yes, because at that point if it helps it's great and if it didn't, I'd be getting a RCS anyway.

Worked beautifully for me! With my second precnancy, my midwife did the stretch and sweep at 39 weeks, 3 days and I went into labour a few hours later. It was definately uncomfortable but not painful. It was definately hard to relax during the procedure but I think that's why it was so uncomfortable - I was pretty tense.

I've had it done with both girls. With both pregnancies, I started losing my plug weeks before I was due. The sweep didn't hurt, but it was uncomfortable because cervix was irritated and I was dilated a little both times. The first time, I had it done on a Friday afternoon and went into labor a few hours afterwards. I was 40wks. The second time, baby was measuring big and had it done at 38 weeks. My water broke at 11 am the next morning.

Pretty sure everyone reacts differently to the sweep. From what I've seen on here, it's kind of a mixed bag. Some women said it was a waste of time and didn't help and others like me, say it worked perfectly and was just the little nudge my body needed to get a move on.
