Natural ways to induce labor

Postby nique88 » Tue Oct 25, 2011 8:51 pm

Has anyone ever tried any of the natural ways to induce labor and it worked? If so which method? I'm 7 weeks away from being cconsidered full term and I plan on getting this bad boy out soon as I get the green light lol

I wouldn't try anything before 40 weeks, but having my midwife do a stretch and sweep worked for me.

I think the only things that actually have a little research to back them are sex, nipple stimulation, walking, acupressure. I've also heard a warm bath and relaxation help. Just don't try these things too soon, you don't want a preemie! :?

NOTHING worked with my first ... but with my second precnancy, a stretch and sweep done by my midwife at 39 weeks, 3 days, worked perfectly. I went into labour just hours after it was done. I agree with the ladies though ... its way too soon now to do anything. I'd be careful - you definately don't want a premie. Good luck!

Walking. A lot. Every day. At least 2-3 miles minimum. Slow-going is fine; it's the amount of time spent upright and moving that counts.

As a sidenote, I don't necessarily recommend this for anyone who would rather their bag of waters stay intact until well into labor (natural birthers, mostly). I'm fairly confident that all the walking caused my bag to spring a leak before going into labor. Luckily I started having contractions 3 hours later. I was 40w4d though, so baby was fully cooked.

I did acupuncture with my son at 37 weeks and worked like a charm. the next day I went into labor. My son was on the BIG side so OB told me at 37 weeks to do whatever I could to get him out in order to try and avoid a C-section.

Accupressure worked with my son. We started it at 40 weeks 0 days and DS was born the next day.

I just had a sweep done at 38 wks 3 days and nothing so far... :? . But I might be a little early. I think most things wont necessarily work unless your body is ready.

Sex worked for both of mine within hours. My daughter was born 6 days early and my son was born 3 weeks early(although we were NOT trying to induce labor).

Don't attempt anything before 40 weeks. 42 preferably. You're not postdates until 42 weeks. Let your baby choose their birthday- they'll thank you.

natural ways to induce labor

Postby momof1 » Sun Jan 29, 2012 4:40 pm

Well for me, I live in an apartment where there's only one bathroom. And during my 3rd trimester I just can't help but pee like every hour! So I had to keep on going up and down. And without knowing I had UTI also that time so it complicated my situation and lead to preterm labor. It was really scary but thank God my contractions were halted. Just make sure before doing anything to induce labor, you're healthy, fit and in the right time. :-)

whatever you do DO NOT take castor oil, it can cause serious respiratory issues in the baby and in some cases even death!

My doula told me evening primrose oil supplements can help get the cervix ready. I was going to start taking them at 37 weeks with my daughter's pregnancy but went into labor naturally at 36 weeks 6 days. :)

I induced my first at 41 weeks with castor oil (after researching thoroughly - I recommend anyone trying it do the same.)

With my second I walked up and down quite a few sets of stairs at the local park.

I've written a guide on 40+ ways to induce labour which may be helpful - it's linked below.
